Did you know that most afib is caused by a lack of magnesium? Most people are deficient in magnesium but your doctor won't be telling you that!!! I had the problem but began taking 1,000mg to 1,500mg of magnesium a day and have a steady heart beat every since. I also take many other vitamins which sure beats taking doctor prescribed medications. Magnesium is priced low and it doesn't kill your liver.

Hi Connie,
I most certainly will check into this. At the moment I'm taking about 580 mg daily plus zillion other vitamins - I will check some of my old blood test results for mag.
Thanks. Good info.

Thank you Connie for your note of 1-29. I am on Multaq since 10-28-10, about 3 months and am doing well on it. I plan to get on magnesium as my cardiologist says it is OK for me to do that. What type do you take? Oxide? Citrate? I have heard Orotate is very good. It is so confusing with so many different compounds available.

Hi Connie, I was interested in your information about Afib being caused by low magnesium! How were you able to find out about that? I would much rather be taking magnesium than Multaq! Thanks for the info.

To sully in Colorado
I am taking magnesium oxide, 1,000 to 1,500 a day.
How I found out about this, I was listening to a preacher, Benny Hinn, and he said a doctor wanted to do surgery on his heart. He contacted a natropathic doctor who did testing on him and found that all he needed was more magnesium. I thought it wouldn't hurt to try and it worked for me. It's important to have the proper balance of calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium to have a happy heart. Good luck to you and God bless.

Hi Lon. C. Kincannon/Suzanne. read your comments re:FLEMETON and would be interested to know how helpful it may be. I am a 71 year old runner/cyclist and have had a/Flutter for some 10 years. Had 3 ablations. The third one in 2009 worked, but 6 weeks later has bleeding in the pericardium - probably due to running too hard. That was sorted and the flutter had still gone, but last march it reared its ugly head again. My cardiologist is just monitoring me at present.
I noticed the website for Flemeton but thought I would try to find out more and have just looked up a website which claims Gordon's Herbal Research is a scam as they market many products whose names end in "eton" claiming to cure everything from hair loss to motor neurone illness and all with exactly the same testimonials. So now I am not sure whether to risk the Flemeton. If you have had any success it would be good to know. Cheers, Richard

what hospital did your abalations?

I've got AFIB - hospitalized in September with congestive heart failure and AFIB. Electro-cardioverted in November. Afib returned in December. Electro-cardioverted again in December, and started Multaq, 400mg, 2x per day. Since then (now it's February), I've had 4 afib episodes. The first three lasted about 4 days. The last one, less than a day. It seems the episodes are getting shorter and shorter, maybe they'll stop all together? I never cardioverted on my own before Multaq, so I guess it works for me. I did have some itchiness under my arms for a while, but that went away a few weeks ago. Maybe that was a side effect?

Hi Joe, I am guessing your enquiry re which hospital did your ablations was regarding my posting No. 289.
It was the North Staffordshire University Hospital, Stoke, Staffs, UK. They were done over a period of 4 years Each time they had had some new equipment with better imaging - I think the images for the first one were still in sepia. They had finally got 3D imaging for the 2009 one which was successful for about 9 months.

Hi Connie, I took note of your posting that you are taking Magnesium so I started taking 500 mg./day and guess what, my AFib episodes have completely stopped!! I am still on Multaq and am on the waiting list for ablation. Have been on Multaq for over a year but Afib was getting progressively worse. I'm amazed about the magnesium! It can't be a coincidence that my Afib has stopped! I'll keep you posted, thank you so much for the tip.

I am 70 and had my first A-Fib about 15 years ago. I was clear for years but over the past 5 years or so it increased in frequency and I've at two CVs. Several months ago I was put on Multaq 2x400mg/day and have only had one very brief A-fib since. My heart is healthy and I cycle 100-150 miles/week at 16-20mph, with sprints to 30mph with a good following wind!! My resting heart rate is 42 and not affected by Multaq, but I have noticed that my max HR has decreased from about 162 to around 147 when sprinting (it should be about 158 for my age). I drink wine, beer and spirits in moderation and have not noticed any adverse effects. I do not believe that Multaq is a fraud, as someone suggested.

Have they tried a cardioversion on you? I go to University of CA San Diego medical group and I was on Multaq for several months and still in a fib. Last april they put me in the hospital for a day and did a cardioversion on me. I went out of a fib and started to beat normally. I am still on multaq and it is keeping me in rythem. Have a talk with your doc about cardioversion. I would rather have that then ablation, much easier. Good luck.

This is for gayle - Post #296- I have been on multaq for four months, it is keeping me out of A-Fib, but I am experiencing extreme tiredness. Has that been a problem for you?

Since I've been taking Multaq, I've felt more tired than usual, so I take a 20-30 minute nap in the afternoons and then I'm fine.

I/ve been on Multaq since april 2009 at first i had trouble with my bp going sky high along with a severe head ache the Dr. said to keep taking it every now & then I go into A-Fib for a few hours & just monitor what my vitals are & keep a watch on what's going on with my body but every now & then when it acts up my heart feels like it just flip-flops in my chest & the A-Fib starts so I'll talk to the cardoligist when i go back in 2 months & see what he wants to do.

Hi Suzanne,]
I'm so happy that your were helped with magnesium.
Most people are deficient in it and it sure can't hurt to try taking it. It is so inexpensive and the only side effects I know about are a loose stool if it is overdone.
A few months ago while shopping at Target, I felt light headed and started getting pain going up into my jaw. I went right to the supplement isle, popped open a bottle of magnesium and chewed two of them, since I'm allergic to asprin, which is recommended at a time as this. I always carry water in my purse so that came in handy. I found a place to sit down and within about 10 minutes all symptoms disappeared. Now I carry magnesium in my purse at all times. Since I have been taking 1,500mg a day, I have had no problems whatsoever. Good luck and God bless you.
