Metoprolol Heart Rate (Top voted first)

I have been taking toprol xl for a couple weeks because my heart rate keeps spiking out of nowhere, the doctor upped the dose and it's still happening. Had to get an ambulance today when my blood pressure got up to 150/102 heart rate 146. This happens very fast when it happens and I normally have a very low blood pressure. Around 98/70 range . Why does my heart rate and bp spike like this? I'm not doing anything but resting lately.

Well, there are various things that could cause it, according to NIH reports, such as being sick, eating, taking in a lot of caffeine, or other medications.

Generally, Toprol causes a lowered heart rate and blood pressure.

Have you consulted a cardiologist? Are you on any other medications?

What time of day is it spiking?

I'm on mtoprolol succinate 25 mg at night and lisenopril 10 mg mornings. My b/p sometimes goes really high go no reason and like you have to be taken in ambulance to hospital last time heart rate and b/p was too high and could not get it down until a dr came in and told the cardiologist Drs that unless they put me on a med for anxiety it would not come down dr put me on 1 mg clonazapam and that night everything came back to normal . Perhaps you have untreated anxiety as I had . This works for me most of the time , but watch your b/p sometimes it will fall too low . Hope this will help you btw klonipin works for about 12 hrs where other anxiety meds work only about half that time.
