Adderall xr 20 mg and M. Amphet Salts 20 mg. Are these the exact same medications? Are they both manufactured my Shire? Does Shire provide Teva/Barr with the generic version of Adderall xr under the name M. Amphet Salts 20mg? Thank you....
henry Hudson obviously u are the ignorant one blue cross will not even pay for the generic amphetamine salt. so there must b an obvious difference my name brand script is between 400 and 500 $ that is the only one blue cross will pay for, and why are u even reading these post unless ur curious urself
ok this has happened to me atleast 5 times at 2 different pharmacys. both me and my daughters prescription read Adderall xr DAW because blu care network will not pay for the amphetamine salts. however all 5 times it has happened the pharamacy charged my insurance for name brand which is a few hundred$$ but gave me the m salts. blu care said they are not name brand unless they say Adderall on the capsule and was lodging an investigation into the pharmacy..what I think is odd is in all these posts everybody is only worried about whats wrote on the capsule. now correct me if im wrong but Adderall is a controlled substance right? so why is it that no one on here has mentioned that u are illegally carrying amphetamine salts in a bottle that says they are Adderall. if they were supposed to b amphetamine salts the label would say that.. and I know someone who went to jail for having a flexerall in the wrong bottle...I may b wrong but im pretty sure its a big felony to have a controlled substance in an mismarked bottle.last wk my doctor wrote me a script for loricet the pharmacy filled it with Norco without notifing my doc.could someone tell me what controlled means I think the pharmacys are making there own rules but I am gonna leave a complaint at the website mentioned above one time they sent me home with vyvance in my daughters Adderall bottle and she don't take them till morning so I didn't notice till next day.and also every time I have been given the wrong pill the pharmacy has always taken them back and I know there not supposed to
Really glad I found this thread.
Barr 20mg IR -> Haunting Side-Effects
Adderall 20mg IR -> Perfect
I wish I could get enough pain meds for lung and breast cancer and two failed back surgeries the second bringing my legs back to mr but it seems like some ppl aren't happy with all the meds they get.I wish I couldcintrol all the pain I am in and answer me one question how do you ppl get drs.to write so much meds when I am in constant pain.
You people are the most ignorant people ive ever read anything from. It makes me laugh reading about your worries. It shows how informed you are about any medication you take, because people like you accidental overdose is a huge killer in the us. It is the same exact drug, just formulated different and chemically combined in a different process. Otherwise they are the exact same thing. Ever hear of the placebo effect?
I take both of them and they both feel exactly the same. Your mind is creating these problems on yourself cause you see a different word. Maybe you're better off without drugs in the first place. If you can't use em', lose em'.
This is the reason I'm on this site now!!! I've been feeling off for months now and just don't understand why! And my questions always go back to the Adderall XR!!! I've been taking the brand but feel like it's the generic which does not work for me!!!!!!
Is it possible to actually find out the truth as to when and what the formulas are changed to!?!?!?!
I would like to say that I take adderallxr and lately the brand name of xr makes me sick.
I do not know if the formula has changed, only that I can't seem to tolerate the xr version brand name with out nausea. I feel like the whole adderall problem is a clusterf***k that noone will openly talk about to the public on television or any other media and everyone on many forums are asking so many questions that need to be addressed. I for one need this medication very badly, and I do not appreciate not being notified of either ingredient changes, or brand changes. It is outrageous and unacceptable that we not know what is going on!!!!!! Someone needs to speak out...
My pharmacy (Walgreens) filled my name brand prescription for Adderall XR 20mg with half Adderall XR and half M Ampet Salts 20mg and charged me for the name brand price. I even had to go back a second time because the first time they filled it generic and I told them I didn't want generic. Over the course of the next month I had terrible cramps and explosive diarrhea almost every workday after lunch. This was extremely unusual for me since my stomach almost never gets upset. I began to think that I had a parasite due to some seafood I had eaten around that same time that had been left out for awhile, but I noticed that I wouldn't get sick on the weekends, only weekdays. After the third week I knew this wasn't a coincidence so evaluated my routine and found Adderall and oatmeal were the only 2 things that were different from my weekend routine, but consistent in weekday routine. As soon as I stopped taking the "Adderall" the symptoms stopped. I still thought it was strange because I have taken Adderall XR for almost 2 years and it has never had this effect on me. I just looked at the bottle today and realized that most of the pills that I had taken were the generic form, M. Amphet Salts. I feel very certain that the symptoms I experienced were because of the medication I was taking. My pharmacist swears they are the same and I wouldn't question it had I not experienced first hand the symptoms that I had.
Regarding dextroamp-amphet er 25 mg versus adderall xr: i am ADD and after coping skills wore thin, i was prescribed Adderall. My script always reads Addreall XR 25MG cap substitutions allowed. I work for the government thus have good insurance; my co pay for generic is $5.00, (covered) brand names $15.00. Never realizing there might be a difference, i had been dispensed with the generic dextroamp-amphet er 25 mg . As a matter of fact, the pharmacy - I've used Walgreens for years - never asked my preference. Long story short, unknowing of the expected result, within 30 minutes (fast result on an empty stomach), i'd feel a stimulant rush which lasts maybe 1 - 2 hours. Id get alot of work done but also did alot of talking. By the 4th - 5th hour, i'd be crash. At this stage id become irritated, eager, and anxious. By the 6th month, i asked the pharmacist for the brand name. The Bottle and caplet reads Adderal XR 25MG. I noticed the difference at first dose. As a matter of fact, I felt it wasn't working because of the lack in the quick rush, however over the first 3 hours i found myself calm, focused, and productive. Within the 6th hour, i did NOT feel the crash i had become regretful of. If you can afford Brand Name, go with it. Life changing difference. THe experience made me question the pharmaceutical industry's intent. I have since spoke with my doctor about it.
I am not able to find the brand name for sale. Can someone suggest where you are buying it. I've checked Rite Aid, CVS and an independent small shop. Rite Aid thought they could order it for me, but just called and told me their supplier said he can't get it.
I'm in California.
I AM SO GLAD I FOUND THIS THREAD.
I have been on adderall for about 2 years now. I remember the first few months of taking name brand adderall as being absolutely fantastic. The most productive days of my life. For some odd reason, i was prescribed the generic version marked M. Amphet Salts. Ever since then i have been having severe neck and upper-back pain, excessive sweating, and the symptoms of my ADD began to show up again. I will be making sure my next prescription is name brand Adderall. I am so glad i found this.
just recently I read an article that said that all generics are not Totally alike ,,,The FDA standards also do not specifically regulate how quickly the medicine reaches peak concentration in the blood. this is a good article management.fortune.cnn.com/2013/01/10/generic-drugs-quality via @FortuneMagazine
I am just starting the generic brand today, and I always read up on what I'm taking before I take it so this site seems to be rather eye opening. to reply directly to what you, alexxx said
"The only logical one I have that Shire gave up on Adderall all together, and sold whatever they had in stock to BARR, told them, yeah go ahead, use our bottles..."
I wanted to add something I read (abc news):
abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2012/01/03/adderall-drug-shortage-will-continue-in-2012-government-officials-say
This article says that there was a shortage on adderall through-out 2011 and possibly earlier. This is supposedly caused by restrictions on companies of how much amphetamines they can produce. (Coincidence? I think not....) This whole generic switch up could've been their solution to the problem. After all since you're buying a name brand, when you call they could just be confirming that you are buying their name brand. But this may not answer someones concern of which chemical formula you're buying.
Not to get political, but s*** (almost) always hits the fan when government interferes with economics and the simple law of supply and demand.
Hope this offers any clarification on the issue! And if this looks like a rant its because the generic is kicking in lol
do not get the barr brand
That is so weird. I was taking the m. Amphetamine for about a year. they were 20 mg, and those are the generic kind. But I just recently got better insurance, so my doctor started giving me real Aderall XR tablets, and I hate them. the generic kind worked so much better for me. they helped me focus, they stopped my insomnia, and they did not give me any problems. But with The Aderall XR gives me really bad anxiety, and sometimes I don't even feel it working. It makes me shake alot, too. I think I really want to go back to generic.
I am very happy I found this site today. You all seem to have similar stories to mine and that's relieving because people on the internet are not very helpful. I posted a thread on an ADD forum, got 200+ views, and ONE response. I am very mad about this but anyway.
I was on 10mg IR of either name brand adderall or a generic for a year. I can't remember because it was 3 years ago. Long story short had to move, had no money, and was off meds for a year. FINALLY got a psychiatrist who gave me 20mg Adderall XR script. Upon receiving the bottle it read; "IC Amphetamine Salts 20mg ER CAP". I could not remember if I had generic before or not but disregarded it in the start. (FYI the capsules are orange and are marked with the "M.AMPHET 20" that the rest of you have talked about)
The first few days were great but soon enough The side effects became more and more noticeable and severe.
This time around I get the usual side effects PLUS some lovely psychological ones, and some extra physical ones on the worse days:
Severe anxiety (nervousness, fear, dread, and very uncomfortable feelings), panic attacks (which i’ve only had maybe 3 times over 22 years), irritation, agitation, anger, frustration, and mood swings consisting of variations of these symptoms.
Not only that, I have palpitations, tachycardia, high-blood pressure (blurred vision, tight chest, trouble breathing). The hearing of my heartbeat even though the noise around me is obviously much louder (I forget the med term for this), twitching of legs, hands and other random body parts, pain around my heart, lung, kidney, and liver areas, sweaty palms and upset stomach.
I called my doctor and she assured me that I may just be getting used to the meds and that taking a break for a day or two when the side effects persist would help, and that we would discuss it more during my next appt (2 weeks away).
ALSO the medication seems to effect me different on a day-to-day basis. Being very frustrated with all of this I have persisted to go on forums, answer sites and google search till i’m blue in the face only to be ignored or disregarded or come up empty.
Today I finnally decided to look on the bottle after reading a few posts about peoples’ experiences with the exact generic that I am taking and SURE ENOUGH guess who makes these meds!? TEVA!!!
I’m very glad I found not only this site but a multitude of resources and reviews by other people with the same condition and medication who have had severe adverse reactions to this particular medication (M.Amphet 20 imprint – aka generic adderall XR caps). I will be asking my doctor to help me get either name brand or a different generic after this.
i am normally prescribed dextroamp-amphet er 30 mg.this time i could not afford that so i got a generic called amphetamine salts from barr.i have taken the orange tablets lower dosage before-no problem.now i am angry-moody and more depressed.i told the nurse that i thought it was the generic that was making me feel this way.she just looked confused.am i just imaging this?
I have been taking Adderall XR 20 mgs for a while. Upon my arrival home one day, I realized the pills were different and when I called the store I was told I was given a generic from (according to) Walgreens called and the label on the bottle says D-Amphethamine Salt Combo 20 mg. These are round pink pills scored horizontally and vertically and have COR 135 on the back.
What am I taking exactly?
Hey Thank you for your honest response. Its good to know I'm not alone out there. I have always done horrible in school and barely made it. I went to a university and ended up failing out because of simple mistakes and being totally disorganized. I eventually ended up going back to school and was advised to see a doctor about if I have any problems resulting in my poor grades and low focus towards studying. I ended up seeing my MD about it and through trial of events and tests I was diagnosed with ADHD. I never would've though that I would have something like this especially since my younger sister gifted and accepted in the highest school in new york city. I myself failed throughout in school and maintained a D+ C- average. After being on the M- Amph Salt I did notice a lot of mood swings and headaches but I did focus better in school. The side effects were very uncomfortable but thought thats how it really was. I ended up telling my doc about it and I was later prescribed with the name brand Adderall XR. I must tell you the side effects are deff not showing at all and my concentration levels and my focus towards my work and cleaning up everything around me is just amazing. I never felt so productive in my life and never got so much school work done all at once. I feel the difference between the name brand and the generic one but also there was a huge price difference for it also. I paid 14$ for the generic one and paid 30$ for the brand named. In my opinion I feel the 30$ is well worth it because I do not feel the side effects at all and continue to help me through my life.
