I've been Dx with lyme disease and Rx 30 days of Doxycycl hyc 100mg. Is this a proper use of this drug? I friend of mine got the same Dx and didn't have lyme disease at all. Should I be worried? In advance Thank you. Linda

Did you show the classic symptoms of it? The most predominant, which usually identifies it is the bullseye rash, though to be honest, it really doesn't look much like a bullseye.
Did they also run the blood test for it?
The 100mg dose of Dozycycline is the antibiotic of choice to treat it and, depending on the severity of its progression, is given for anywhere from 10 to 28 days.
The danger, of course, is that if you are not infected with Lyme's Disease and use the antibiotic, you run the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria.
However, the problems associated with letting Lyme's go untreated can cause much more severe ill health effects.
My son was diagnosed with it, when he was 5. I'd taken him to the doctor, because I'd noticed a red ring around his eyes, that made it look like he'd been wearing a tight set of goggles. The nurse took one look at it and said it was Lyme's, which they then confirmed with a blood test. He was put on an antibiotic for 10 days, which cleared it right up and he never had any other problems.
However, a friend of my ex-husband's family caught it and it was not diagnosed for a long time, which compounded the problems from it. He ended up suffering severe repercussions, until he died of heart failure, in his early 50"s.
It doesn't hurt to get a second opinion, if you really want to do so, but I'd recommend not waiting too long, before doing so, because if you do have Lyme's, it's important to treat it as soon as possible.
