You should take your chihuahua to a veterinarian, as soon as possible. There's a risk of liver damage, or possibly death, if it causes his blood pressure and heart rate to drop too low.
This medication can safely be used in dogs, but the dosage it usually different, as well as the dosing duration.
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension.
