I have chronic low back pain and was prescribed 8 # 10 Narco 2 every 4 hours or as needed , I have severe degenerative disc disease and no disc between 5 vertibre, now bone on bone and all fusing together, it’s probably worse now since my last MRI but my doctor no longer sees general public, my new doctor won’t give me anything, told me to see a psychiatrist! I get in so much pain I get nauseous to where I can’t function, I need some help ! Please let me know my options if any , thank you!

Hello Craig,

What a horrible situation!

I have a friend who is in a similar situation and I see the struggle he goes through to keep his medication. Really what it boils down to is finding a primary care physician who will work with you and take the time to really invest time into understanding your particular condition. My suggestion is that you set up an appointment to have a new MRI done and discuss your concerns with your doctor, if he still insists on you visiting a psychiatrist you can either choose to follow his treatment plan or find a new doctor and start over.

I really wish that I was able to give you some more solid advice but as far as prescription medication is concerned it really just boils down to whether or not the doctors believe that you need it or not. All you can do is give them as much detail about your situation as possible and be as descriptive as you can. For most doctors prescribing strong pain pills for long term use is a last resort and it is not uncommon that they will try to verify that all other paths have been checked first.

I hope this helps some.
