Lexapro And Alcohol

I've been on esco-(whatever it's called) for nearly five weeks. I started on Loxalate (the Australian brand of Lexapro) and lost the nausea and panic within a week. (The reason I'm on it is because I had a "nervous breakdown"- a spontaneous pain in the arse!)
So anyway, after raging online to find out what the hell a nervous breakdown actually is and how to treat it, I found that the drug of choice was lexapro. I, originally taking the cheaper option, decided that when my pack was finished, I'd go Canadian (eh). I'm almost a week into it and it's definitely not as "chilled" as the cheaper Australian alternative. I feel wierd. Loxalate made me feel normal, and lexapro makes me feel- thr best way to describe it (and the only way I can describe it) is that I feel the same way you feel when needing to yawn (tense in the chest/throat).

So, this makes me a little more concerned about drinking. Before this whole sherade, I was an avid drinker (2-3 glasses of wine every other day/ a big drink once a month). I would like to have a drink, but should I change back to the more comfortable brand (loxalate) quarter-way through the lexapro dosage, or just proceed to have a night on the town?

I want to hear others' experiences with lexapro and drinking. I know that I "shouldn't drink in excess", but really, I'm an Irish/Australian- It's just in my nature to rebel and drink.

Sorry to hear about your strange experience with lexapro. From my own understanding, these types of drugs almost always effect each person differently. So depending on where you found the information stating that lexapro was the 'drug of choice', it could just be some stranger's opinion from their own past experience and not necessarily what might've been the best option for "you" and your individual case of anxiety/depression.

When it comes to any medication though, it's probably wise to stick with what you know is already working. However if drinking is really that important to you, it really comes down to weighing out whether the benefits of drinking are worth the increased risk of potential side effects that comes with using the two together:

According to drug interaction checkers, using Loxalate (escitalopram) together with alcohol can increase nervous system side effects such as: Dizziness, drowsiness, and/or difficulty concentrating. Some users might also experience increased instances of impairment in thinking and judgment. For such reasons, the safety guidelines recommend avoiding or limiting the use of alcohol while being treated with Loxalate.
