what problems have people had with lexamil users that have alcohol as well.....my husband is on lexamil 1 tab a day but if he does not take the tab hes moody and morbid and if he drinks alcohol it makes him unco operative ....what can i do

Lexamil contains the active ingredient Escitalopram, it is an SSRI antidepressant.

It can be dangerous to use with alcohol, because it can cause great worsening of the side effects.

These may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and irritability.

I don't think it is likely to be dangerous to drink alcohol while on escitalopram. However, effects of the drug are very specific to individuals - the doctors say "idiosyncratic" - so really you just have to try it and monitor it carefully. I have been taking only 5mg of escitalopram for 14 months and it is helping my anxiety a lot. I sometimes drink 375 ml, half a bottle, or even more, of wine of about 14% alcohol. I notice that the next day i get drowsier than i used to, both physically and mentally. Also, i am pretty sure that the escitalopram has caused irritable bowel syndrome, IBS, and that the alcohol makes it a lot worse. The main symptom of having alcohol with it for me is bloating the next day - it can be rather noticeable. As far as drinking alcohol on SSRI/SNRIs goes, i have at least 4 friends who do it and it is not as dangerous for us as some may think. The main reason to consider it dangerous is that it is possible you may have a different reaction to that of other people.
