Klonopin Iv Dose Long Term Side Effects
UpdatedAbout 2 years ago, my boyfriend had the brilliant idea of administering klonopin intravenously several times into his lower leg. He developed an irritation, then full blown abscesses, accompanied by numbness in his foot, ankle, parts of his leg - and they alternate with occasional tingling and sensation but mostly his foot and toes are completely numb. Is this correlated to the IV of klonopin (i do not know the dose) - and is it permanent damage or could it be reversible? The abscesses have cleared up (thanks to medical ointment) - but i fear that the nerve damage is too far gone. It depresses him to no end as he cant walk properly..... he also suffers from trigeminal neuralgia and at the time was seizing and seeking relief (his usual solution, opiates, were unavailable at that moment so he saw the next best thing as my klonopin. Please help. I don't know what to do. This has ruined 2 years of our relationship. I need to fix him. I need to make him better. He is clean now and hasn't used opiates or any other illegal drug in quite some time. I found that placing a lidocaine patch on his temple helps with the trigeminal neuralgia and he doesn't need opiates anymore. Thank you so much... I need to figure this one out.

Hello, Alie! How are you?
The problem with using tablets in a manner they aren't intended to be used is that they contain fillers and not all of them are meant to be broken down by the human body. Normally, when you swallow one, these fillers are just expelled as waste, but when you use it in some other manner, you put them into your body in such a way that your body cannot process it out. This can lead to blockages, which in some extreme cases have caused heart attacks and stroke.
Now, some of the damage he's done may be reversible, but he's going to need to see a doctor and be honest about what he did and what his symptoms are, that way they know what they're looking for and can treat him properly.
The FDA classifies Klonopin as a benzodiazepine, which carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability.
I am very sorry about how detrimental this has been to your relationship and I wish I could help more.
Is he on any medications, at present?
thank you for replying! ... he has already been to a doctor, and was honest about how the abcesses got there - but this was about a year or more after the initial injection (it was a one night thing not repeated after that night). he still is applying ointment that was prescribed by a doctor, which is helping the outside of his leg, but not the nerves or the numbness, sadly. he is not currently on any other medication other than klonopin (his own prescription) which he takes occasionally for anxiety. (how his dr still prescribes this after the injection incident is beyond me). he was on vilizodone (an anti depressant) for some time but discontinued the treatment because he hated how he felt on it.
we are both uninsured, but i feel he needs xrays or an MRI of the leg to determine the extent of the damage and if it can be reversed....
i massage his lower leg and foot ( i am trained in kineseology, anatomy, massage and i took dance for 30 years... so i know what im feeling around for) - and the muscles are still reactive and all attached properly... but even if im using a LOT of pressure, he says he can barely feel it.
thank you for your kind words. i really just fear that he will lose functionality of his leg over time, and it's scaring me to death. - Alie
I have serve anxiety & looking for a dr to prescribe klopins that's thd only thing that helps. Do you know of any Drs. I know how doctors are about it now cause people abuse it
im not going to detail to you how to obtain a prescription for klonopin. thats a decision your doctor needs to make with you based on your needs, your anxiety level, your patient history, if you are easily addicted to medications etc. i have a prescription because i have documented panic attacks and have had them for years - i take klonopin as needed to help alleviate panic attack symptoms. please talk to your health care professional and see what works for you personally. if someone just writes you a script for klonopin without fully researching your case first, id question their ethics as a doctor.
