Is Tylenol 4 As Strong Norco 5mg

I've been on Vicodin, Norco,and now Tylenol 3 for pain. I'm getting ready to have knee surgery and than back surgery. I'VE BEEN TAKING THESE PAIN PILLS SINCE MARCH 2014. How do I tell my dr. that the Tylenol 3 is not strong enough and I'm taking more than 2 a day. I ALSO HAVE HEP C+, WHAT SHOULD I be taking/

The Codeine in these Tylenol formulations is actually a very weak opiate, you'd need 33.33mgs of it to equal each 5mgs of Hydrocodone in the Norco.

The FDA lists these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Since you have Hep C, you likely should avoid the medications that contain Acetaminophen, since it can cause liver damage. You should most likely be on just a straight narcotic.

If the Norco helped you, there is a new time released formulation of it available that you could ask your doctor about, it's called Zohydro and doesn't contain any Acetaminophen.
