Is Suboxone Or Methadone Better?

hi i'm a 29 yr old male with chron's disease and a very high tolerance to pain relief and i was just wondering if subutex/suboxone was better than the methadone for pain management i have been on 20mg of oxys twice a day for about 6 months and they only work when i double dose or boot em up and now the doctors are talkin about putting me on the beup or methadone program and i'm not sure which one has more merit if ya know what i mean lol

The Buprenorphine in the Suboxone is stronger and doesn't have the same addictive tendencies that the Methadone does.

People who no longer need it for pain, or addiction treatment, often have better luck tapering off and becoming medication free, as compared to Methadone, where they often require a lifetime maintenance dose.

The withdrawal symptoms, if you do try to get off it are also much more severe and dangerous with the Methadone.

I am a chronic pain patient, on oxycodone and oxycontin. I tried suboxone for pain control, like your doctor is suggesting for you. The suboxone provided me with absolutely NO PAIN RELIEF WHATSOEVER! Better you find a new doctor!

it's worked for me. I've been on Subs for 7 years. I take IBUprofen if pain is bad and subs are not enough. I get prescribed to take 3 x 1/2 strips of 12/3mg a day. some days I only take 2 x a 1/2 and on a bad day 2 full strips with IBUprofen. You kinda need to figure what will work for you. But be forewarned, It is very very hard to get off them. the withdrawals are worse that opiate withdrawals I heard. And those were bad I remember. When I was abusing pain pills years ago due to pain and got addicted and was taking more and more due to a high tolerance. The whole pain management is a scary thing. You do not want pain but the alternative is pain free and addiction if using on a daily basis. even if you take as prescribed. You will still have withdrawals.

I was in a car accident in 05" and started taking tabs than it turned into oxy 80s. I hated being on anything but i had severe leg pain and didn't know why. Now i realize it mustve been from being hooked up to a s*** load of pain meds in hospital. Anyways i called a real cool doctor and told him it was taking over my life so he gave me a two week script of methadone ten. You just swollow them normal, it worked great. I felt great for a little bit. That didnt last and i took a pill once, dont do that, it starts the effects sll over again. Now its 07" and i go to rehab for 20 days, they gave me bupenorphine three times a day, under tongue for two days than two a day than one, worked amazing! Was clean for a month. I met someone and thought it'd be ok to take a pill, it wasnt!! Ever since then ive been on liquid methadone. I hate it!! Ive been completely clean since and will never make the same mistakes!! I just wanted to give my insight and maybe help someone, i regret ever going to the methadone clinic, its liquid handcuffs!! I mean it works for some pain but idk everyones different so i guess i shouldnt say but most people I've seen at clinic hate it. Choose a differnt route. Do u really want or need to be on another addictive drug to get off another!! Once u start usually people stay on it for years probably because now theyre stuck. Buprenorhine for pain is the way to go. I've had chronic pain for just over 20yrs and will have to be on some kind of pain control for life. Currently i am prescribed generic bupe which is suboxone without the added naloxone. I get 3 8mg pills a day and break them up and take a minimum of 2mg, maximum of 6mgs every 4hours approximately. Bupe works just fine for pain, but the suboxone strips are absolutely worthless for pain. The company that made suboxone destroyed their own product by changing into a strip, just so they could keep a patent and persuade some ignorant doctors to only prescribe strips. If you can get bupe only tabs, this is the way to go, but even generic bupe/naloxone tablets work okay. Once agaim, the strips are worthless for pain. I used to be on methadone tablets awhile back and it loses its effect quick requiring constant dose increases. I've been on bupe for 7 years and only increased my dose twice. Well from one who is on methadone for maintence purposes I find it useful as
Pain reliever for my chronic orthopedic pain condition as well.My addiction was
Fostered by 4 surgical procedures at a very young age.Unable to maintain a meaningful recovery with agonizing chronic pain Methadone was recommended as an option.As a last resort I accepted the offer and amazingly it has proven effective for the past 14 years. I'm maintained on 90
mg.As a single a.m. Oral dose.( tablets) Which has been my stable dose for 8 years now.I attend the clinic once monthly because I have complied and phased to the highest level of conformity.So when folks call it liquid handcuffs ,IT DOESNT NEED BE IF YOU WORK THE PROGRAM AND REFUSE TO ALLOW THE METHADONE TO WORK YOU.Im lucky enough to have an excellent counselor,Medical doctor and a strong recovery program.I only use Advil for inflammation purposes and that is my entire regimen. I'm told that I am the rare exception but I attend group therapy for recovering addicts that use methadone like myself and there are far more then folks would imagine.The most important thing one can have is COMPLETE CONFIDENCE IN THEIR TREATMENT TEAM WITHOUT THAT doubts,old stinkin thinkin and outside forces can lead you astray.
