Is Oxycodone 5mg 325 The Same As A Percocet
UpdatedAre all generic percocet the same exact formula? The 4839V works fine for me but I just took 1 pill marked RP on one side and 5 325 on the other and felt really sick - numbness in feet, shallow breathing, chest pain. I've been taking percocet for breakthrough pain for years and never had this happen.

My mother just received a new bottle of percocet 5 325 with R P on the other side. It does not seem to be working like OTHER brands she has received in the past??? I took one, which should have knocked me out due to my low tolerance. It did NOTHING!
Under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984, generics are allowed to differ from the name brands, in the amount of the active ingredients, by as much as plus or minus 20%, the FDA considers this to be an acceptable therapeutic window and it was done to help bring generics to market faster, which can also help create market competition to keep prices lower.
However, generics do not have to measure against each other, only against the name brand, which may create problems if someone is sensitive to any fluctuation in their medications.
Additionally, the inactive ingredients do not have to be the same, at all. There is a list of ingredients that the FDA classifies as being inactive and safe, so they are allowed to pick any from that list that they choose.
The active ingredients do not have to be exactly identical, either. They are only required to be bioequivalent, which means they must be shown to act in the body in the same way as the original active ingredients, and their side effect profile must be similar. This doesn't mean it's not actually Oxycodone, Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, Hydrocodone, or etc., but that the chemical salts they are derived from may be different.
Thus, there are various issues that could cause someone to react badly to a new generic, or to start experiencing different side effects, than they had previously.
Thankfully, since the differences are very slight, people that have problems usually adjust in about a week, or so, and most people never realize any difference, at all.
I also have to say, Sd, given the chest pain, numbness, and breathing issues, there is a possibility that you could have something else going on that requires medical attention, so you should have these symptoms checked out, to be safe.
Is there anything else I can help with?
In my opinion they are not. As I understand it, generics can vary as much as 20% from the brand they are prescribed in lieu of. I have found drastic differences in the pain level alleviation from one generic to another. They are only compared to the brand they are replacing not compared to each other. Specifically I refer to 10-325 by Midlothian as compared to 10-325 by Alvogen.
