Is Compazine Safe For Me

1st off let me thank you for taking the time to answer my ?...

I am on Geodon an atypical antipsychotic for Bipolar Disorder.

I have Gastro Paresis and my stomach doesn't empty the correct way and it causes severe nausea and vomiting.

I was on Phenergan for the nausea (I tried Zofran it didn't work) but my Health Insurance stopped paying for Phenergan. So My Doctor put me on Compazine 10mg (its a typical antipsychotic). I took it years ago, and it made me restless and I felt like I had to keep moving my legs. My Doctor knows this but its pretty much my only option. I am already on Cogentin .5mg 2x day b/c the Geodon I'm on make me have tremors.

I was wondering if I go up on my Cogentin dose to 2mg 2x a day if that would work. I use to be on that dose before, but my Doctor lowered it.

Is it safe to try the Compazine again?

***ONLY SERIOUS, HELPFUL ANSWERS PLEASE***

Hello, Zachary! How are you?

There is actually a risk taking the Compazine with the Geodon. It may cause QTc interval prolongation of the heart, which may be life threatening. My guess would be that is why your doctor has you on such a low dose, you shouldn't raise it, without his approval.

Other issues may include heavily increased sedation and increased extrapyramidal symptoms, according to the FDA.

Compazine can also increase the effects of the Cogentin.

Other side effects may possibly include headache, dizziness and dry mouth.

Is there anything else I can help with?
