Is Adderall Speed? (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Why are so many responders referring to Adderall as Speed? From my understanding, speed is a methamphetamine? Just wondering because I am considering Adderall as a possible alternative to Ritalin but don't want to take Speed!

These meds often have an opposite affect on a person with add or adhd. It levels my son out, calms him. I took one before, and yes i felt like i was on meth. A person with the add/adhd, it calms them. When my son was on ritalin, he would not eat and had trouble sleeping, and horrible headaches.

ive been taking adderall xr 30mg for 3 years then i take 10mg at 2 oclock in the after noon i need them im adhd so it has the oppipsite effect i sleep fine and i eat fine i take something for the crash for when the adderall wears off but taking for recreational use it is a type of go fast and the instant release can make you test postive for methamphines adderll is just a pharmaceutical speed it is pure instead of having all the trash in it like methamphines

Ok you vomitted that is why you were not close to death. Vomitting is the bosies way of getting rid of stuff that hurts the body. that's why most people vomitt after drinking too much those who don't get very ill or die from alcohol over dose. BEtter get more facts about what you are doing beofre doing any more.

my son has been taking adderall 30 XR for 4 yrs. now, and works great!! Honor Role student. 12 years old now and has been taking ADHD meds. since 4 years old. Without his meds, major hyper! Highly recommend, and he has been on many different meds.and this by far the best. Only side effect may be appetite, but doing on the weight gain. He takes it early morning 6:30 AM and has no trouble sleeping. This is just my opinion.

I am a 19 year old male, I do not have ADD but I got prescribed Adderall 20 mg tablets strictly for my own high for about one year now. Amphetamines have always been my drug of choice. I have been up since the 25th, it's pretty normal for me to be up for a couple of days if not a few until I crash, but earlier today I was taking pill after pill and before I knew it I was at 400 mg within an 18 hour period. It's called handling your s*** and not being a twacker. Sorry but you people are pussies, fighting about your "speed"? speed is street slang, you get these little pills from a pharmacy. Not a mexican slinging grams of coke and baking soda in your "hood". Adderal takes a toll on the body and causes a little sweating, but once your nuts drop and you can get past the chain smoking and constant jibber jabber, you'll be fine. Just make sure to eat even though you don't want to and maybe the youth to come wont be pussies and fear adderal. you people are all ignorant, and to the girl that smoked, DRANK and did adderall.. mixing a stimulant with a depressant, dumb s***. All of you guys in this chat room that are getting so worked up about it and that get a silly tummy ache from ten milligrams.. Not saying to go and abuse the drug, because I can tolerate my high, utilize it to accomplish things, and when i see people older than me and heavier than me complaining about a 10 mg smurf pill making him sick, i die a little on the inside, because I think to myself... man that guys dad must be so proud of his son. MAN UP, take advantage of your high you get for 5.00 considering you're making something of your life and have health insurance. Adderall is supposed to help you focus and bring you back to homeostasis. Take a few pills.. get happy, and for god sake quit relating it to speed.

Adderall is speed,for sure.Methamphetamine and amphetamines are both speed.Long term use can cause violent unpredictable behavior,sleeplessness,weight loss,and lots of other nasty side effects.Try something natural,like meditation or exercise.This stuff is bad news.

I was just reading through responses and thought it's better late than never, and in case you have already done something about this, good. If not, I would STRONGLY recommend getting your son a bite guard for when he grinds his teeth. I'm in dental school and have seen the effects from grinding teeth. Your son will thank you later.

Adderall and Ritalin are both close enough to the the classic idea of what most people would think of when they think of 'speed'.
The thing is, (have not read all the replies, hope this isn't just rehashing what others may have written here), Anyway, the thing is that Ritalin does in fact stimulate the brain, but in a **properly** diagnosed case of hyperactivity, you have to know just what it is that it is 'stimulating'. The thinking goes that Ritalin, (and maybe Adderall, which I know less about, since I don't believe that it works as well for me as Ritalin), that Ritalin is stimulating the reticular activating system. Here's a snippet from a relevant article: *** "In addition, the RAS acts as a filter, damping down the effect of repeated stimuli such as loud noises, helping to prevent the senses from being overloaded."*** THIS is the reason that it works for me, (the Ritalin, that is). The damping effect on certain stimuli, which is thought to have an effect on 'distractibility'. Long story short, the 'paradoxical effect' of giving a child speed *to calm them down*, is because it's 'speeding up' a part of the brain that NEEDS 'speeding up' because it's not doing it's job. The sharpest neurologist I ever worked with put it best: “The system is like a traffic cop directing things, prioritizing things, making sure the higher brain centers aren't deluged with a lot of useless information. In your case, you've got your traffic cop all dressed up in uniform, standing at his post, and eating a donut instead of directing the traffic.” I loved that analogy.

I guess I am different from other people but I have actually decreased my intake of adderall. I was at 40mg and my new doctor reduced it down to 20mg and I prefer to take 10mg. I take it once in the morning and I am okay for the rest of the day. My mind runs like crazy and with the adderall I am able to concentrate better. I wasn't diagnosed until I was an adult at 24 but I was able to control myself in grade school, high school, and college and did quite well in all. I went from 40mg to cold turkey and was really tired and lethargic for a month but I didn't have any weird withdrawal symptoms. I prefer being at 10mg even though I am supposed to take 10mg BID but I have noticed I don't need the 20mg unless I have to concentrate well into the evening which is not very often. I am one of those individuals that have ADD and an anxiety disorder. Maybe that is why I did well in school the anxiety part always made me want to do well so I was able to cope with my ADD. I do remember my mind just wondering off in class and other places but I was still able to get my work done at home. I had to be alone in a room and it needed to be quiet nothing to distract me.

#1 it's been a few minutes since the 80's. So to think things in medication hasn't changed makes you purposely un-educated.
#2 sounds like you didn't follow a schedule.
#3 adderal is usually in addition to therapy.
#4. Sorry you've had a hard time. But you've had at minimum 2 decades to deal with this issue.

My 13 yr old has been on ritalin for years. It was a horrible experience. We switched him to adderoll, which im sorry, they arent methamphetimines, its called anphetimine salt. Adderol isnt even considered a drug that they get dependant on, its not considered an addictive controlled mmsubstance. Its not street dealers makin our prescriptions. Adderol is the ONLY the only med we have had success with. I mean MAJOR SUCCESS, and there are times he doesnt take it, docs approval of course, but hes fine. When he took ritalin, it WAS like an addiction to meth. A real nightmare. I totally approve of adderol

I had aderall for the first time to day and i've had some teeth grinding problems like the guy who's child is taking 30mg a day and to day this stuff worked! but i would like to know if theres a way,this is about to sound crazy, to make SOME obviously not even half of wat the pill does, but make the effects permenant like in the movie limitless- told you it would sound crazy but if I can't permenantaly cure it I will probably only take it through highschool

yes taking that much can harm u but it doesnt take people long to build up that way i take 4 30mg XR a day and have only been perscribed adderal for right at 6 months. i am not addicted just have a high tollerance for it i go about a week with no pills because i am taking so much a day but if i take any less it doesnt seem to help so the week i am without any adderal im deppressed but it doesnt stop me from doing what i need to do but yes it is 1 of the most commen drugs that people get addicted to just saying taking an unussual amount isnt always a sign of addiction bcuz i dont feel like i need the adderal to do anything it just is a major help in my life.

You are a horrible mother, your kid is fcking 13 and you have him taking adderall. What the FCK is wrong with you. When he is 21 he can make that decision on his own not because you are too lazy of a parent to force him to sit down and do his homework. Wow, that is scary.

Everybody is different and depending upon tolerance and other variables it is possible that a person who takes 5 pills could end up in the hospital as it is also possible for another person to take as many as 15 of the same pill and not have to go to the hospital.

I was addicted to Adderall for three years. It is not a joke -- reading these comments about how great it makes you feel, it's like seeing myself starting to take this (as an Rx) and not having a clue what it would ultimately do to me. I got off it when my body started revolting. I went numb in some places, I felt my heart beating way too fast, and I had serious cardiac arrhythmia.

If you're thinking of taking speed/Adderall/Dexedrine/Ritalin/Vyvanse, etc., take a hard look at all the speeded-out commentary on this thread. That's the euphoria. Just know that the "up" eventually has to come down, and it is mind-bogglingly horrible. Speed first builds confidence, then replaces it.

If there is any question as to whether you need it to function at all, don't use it. It was a pure rot for three years of my life.
