Imipramine Withdrawal
UpdatedMy doc has been taking me off 75 mg. dose for about the past two months two weeks. I have finished what he thinks is a reasonable time to wean me off. I have been off the drug since last Thursday..I am having withdrawal at different times of the day...just when I think I am feeling better something else crops up...now I am having indigestion, chills, lethargy...anyone else experience these things when coming off a tranquilizer and how long did it take you to feel better ?

i've just posted asking about length of time for imipramine withdrawal. I see your post was ages ago. I've done 3 days of sleeping, nausea, headache and generally feeling very unwell. How much longer have got like this?!
It has taken me two years to reduce my 150mg imipramine to 85mg per day. You should choose how long and how small the reductions should be and don't let your doctor rush you. My doctor prescribed 12 x 2mg diazepam to help during the first week of each drop and that has proved a godsend. I do a drop every 3 months or so so my advice to you would be to go at your own pace and take it SLOWLY. Imipramine is very hard to withdraw from so give yourself time. Hope this helps
I have been on imimpramine for 30 years starting at 5 mg. up to 300 mg. over a period of time. It really helped my depression, however some years later I started to experience panic attacks so bad I could not function. I was given clonazepam. Now I am coming off of imipramine very gradually, I was on 50 mg. went down to 40 for 6 months, then 30 for 6 months, and now I am on 20 mg. I have no energy, every bone in my my body aches so bad it hurts to walk. I get light headed and feel a shock in my head at night sometimes. All I want to do is lay around and sleep! Help!
Hello Mary
Excuse my bad English. I'm French.
I've been taking Tofranil for 1 year 5 X 25 mg a day.
I've tried 3 others antidepressants but tofranil is the best for me.
In France, we can't find Tofranil anymore. Out of stock !
Which country are you from ?
Is Tofranil available in your country ?
I wish you a better health.
Hi, I'm a 56 yo woman who was put on this drug 26 years ago. I do not want to take it anymore and have been weaning myself off from 200mg at bedtime to now 50 mg. My withdrawals have been horrible. Not being able to sleep but 3 hrs, not feeling good in my stomach, anxiety and no energy. This drug is a bad drug, my wife is a nurse and she said she heard about this drug in nursing school 26 years ago and was told that they were not good. I am suffering through this and praying it gets better.
