I take 100 ic gabapentin 3 times/day for sciatica. Now I find that my bladder leaks about once a week which is unnerving. Has this been reported as a side effect?

I started Gabapentin 900 mg daily for three weeks and have had bladder leakage every night since. It's so weird I just don't quite make it to the toilet. I thought I was sleeping better as a result of no night leg pain! Now I no the drug causes an uncontrolled bladder. :-( Sad because I am so happy the pain has gone.

Just increased gabapentin to 500mg and urine started leaking! I'm stopping it tomorrow. Hopefully the leak will stop! Too bad cause it's helping with my nerve pain :(

Lisa you are not alone!! Iam sure the Gabapentin caused my bladder problems, its a shame because it was so good for the pain, had good results.So iguess it boils down to do you wet yourself or have pain relief? I stopped it, cant be doing with not making it to the loo.

I started Gabapentin about 4 days ago, 300 mg at night and I am supposed to increase it to 300 in the am after a week. In those 4 days...I have wet the bed one night, not made it to the bathroom "in time" 4 times. It's like the urge comes on so quick and I can't make it to the bathroom. Can't believe it happened so quick. Glad I found this post and that I am not the only one.

This is an update, I am now off Gabapentin and the bladder problems have improved a bit, but my doctor sent me to see a urologist and after test I retain 100mls approx. in my bladder. My bladder feels empty to me, I am going to have a cystoscopy[ a camera into my bladder] to see whats going on. Idont wet myself anymore, so that's good! The theory from my doctor is that with Gabapentin it slows the message getting to your brain that you need pee and sometimes its to late.

Yes, I too have had bladder leakage with Neurontin. As a matter of fact, on 3 occasions I literally wet on my self at night. Never had it to happen before
going on Neurontin 2 pills twice daily.

I have been taking Gabapentin 600mgs three times a day for three months for severe osteoarthritis, I also have the same bladder symptoms as the other people, frequency and only just making it to the bathroom. Also symptoms of a urine infection, but UA showed no infection.. I can wake with urinary symptoms and then they go in a few hours. (symptoms of infection). I am weaning myself off Gabapentin at the moment, taking it slowly so as not to experience withdrawal effects i' will manage the pain in the same way as before.

I am like you, except the leakage is getting worse. It only does it at night to the point that I have a wear a depend. Went to my obgyn yesterday and she checked for a UTI, did not have one. I feel sure it is the Neurontin, which I plan to go off of.

And here I thought that it was just me and that I was loosing my mind. I am 37 with neuropathy and have not been making it to the bathroom (at night) on time when I am on the medication. (just about 15 steps away- really?) I was off the medicine for a brief time as they had me on pain medication post-op and had no issues. As soon as I started again- no time to make it to the bathroom! I researched and this situation is not listed as a side effect! They really need to investigate this- people feel like doctors do not believe them when they say it is the medication and so prescribe even more medication to help with that side effect.

I sarted a transdermal cream of gabapentin ~ 6 weeks ago. First, I noticed puffy eyes nearly every AM when up out of bed. Now, the past two nights, I notice frequent urination. I am fine, so far, during the day. But at night, I have the sensation in my bladder that I need to urinate ... nearly the whole night ... then when I do urinate, very little occurs. I think I would rather try a different pain remedy or live with my pain disorders symptoms than have lack of sleep, frequent need to urinate at night, and the feeling that my bladder is nearly constantly triggered at night.

I also take 1200 mg per day and am having problems with urination. I have leakage all the time. When I pee it comes out very slow and after I wipe I pee more. This is getting on my nerves. I have permeate nerve damage due to back problems. I don't know where to start with getting this taken care of.

I must say I have been taking Gabapentin and Seroquel for quite some time for my Bipolar illness and have had a serious case of overactive bladder for about 10 years now. I recently saw a Chinese herbalist in Chicago to help in offsetting this lingering side effect. I'm trying to keep my hopes up that I'll be totally cured of all ailments as I'm only 39 years of age.

Everyone that's on 100mg or more of Gabapentin,allowed me to know my side effect aren't unrealistic for bladder symtoms.It's very irritating at times,so ill have to notify my doctor as soon as possible.Also experiencing chest pains.

I just found this site when looking for side effects of gabapentin. I take two tabs of Narco for pain daily and 600 mg of gabapentin. Adding the gabapentin helped a lot for pain and restless legs which are extreme and have been daily for 20 years, getting worse as time goes by., The gabapentin helps a lot for the pain and I have been on even higher doses over the years off and on. I have had to add it again but will have to stop because of leg and feet swelling. However one side effect has been proven to me. I often cannot make it to the bathroom in time to urinate. I think it is either my bladder has become "weaker" or I do not notice the urge in time. I also have spells of not being able to fully empty my bladder. I just think the doctors should know Gabapentin definitely causes these side effects in me.

I had a total knee replacement in March 2013. This is one of the meds my doc ordered. I have had the same problem with leakage. I get up to go to the restroom at night and before I get there, it's too late. I have just taken the my last dose so I think this issue will resolve itself. I might add that it only happened about 3 times, but that was 3 times too many

I am having the feeling of having to go to the bathroom all the time. I have went from 100mg to 200mg for Neuropathy. I hate this feeling and am on Vesicare but it does not seem to work. I think I will stop the Gabapentin and deal with the pain rather than have my bladder control my life. Thank you for you info.

I was on 1200mg/day for nystagmus from MS. I also take Detrol for an overactive bladder (again, MS related). The Gabapentin fixed the nystagmus, but it became impossible to pee, no matter how much I drank. At the same time, I had some leakage. Stopped the Gabapentin, now I can pee again, and the leakage has stopped. And the nystagmus is back. :-(

I am on 1200mg a day and I had this problem but now it has become worse and the dr also said it is not related well I am 32 years and never had this problem before I started taking this medicine. I am also being treated for back problems.

Ginger ... I have had the same thing happen 3 times since I've been on 100mg of Gabapentin for sciatica. I think it's the absolute cause because I've never had this happen before. Mine hasn't been while sleeping, but during the day, I'll get just a few drops in my panties and wonder what the heck happened.

It is interesting that people here have all reported that bladder leakage has started when taking this drug. I did stop taking it and the night time bladder leakage stopped. This is not valid research, but it seems valid to for me.
