I NEED TO KNOW IF I CAN GET THIS MEDICATION FOR A COUGH I HAVE HAD FOE THREE YEARS. I TAKE IT ONLY ONCE A DAY BECAUSE I PAY $182.00 A MONTH. I AM WIDOWED AND 65 YEARS OLD. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO PAY THIS AMOUNT. IF I SIGN FOR IT CAN I GET IT OVER THE COUNTER AND HOW MUCH IS IT.. SINCERELY CAROL

No, this is not available over the counter. The hyd stands for Hydrocodone, which is a narcotic, so it is only available by prescription.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? They may be able to prescribe a cheaper alternative.

As to the cough, do you know what's causing it? Are you on any other medications?

All narcotics are normally used for short term only unless you are enrolled in pain management, where specialists control your pain on a monthly basis where you bring in your Medication and your meds are counted before a new R/X is written.The Fed. Govt. is cracking down more than ever at this time.

I started taking tussinex pol/cpm 10-8/5ml 240ML liquid for COPD. 1 teaspoon every 12 hrs. How long should this bottle last because it wasn't cheap?

Hi Carol - I’m concerned that since you’ve been on this medication for a period of time, you may go in to withdrawals if you abruptly stop taking it. Talk to your doctor about this, as you really don’t want to go in to withdrawals. And I’m confused that a doc would prescribe this for a cough for a number of years, and not do something else to resolve the cough. That’s concerning.

This makes me nuts. All the crap drs prescribe I consider habit forming...drugs for high BP-drugs for Diabetes-drugs for everything including laughing or crying too much. An rx that helps a cough which clearly should rule out allergies or lung-respiratory issues. Drs rush to hand out those 100s of afs on TV the pharma companies are screwing us royally charging a 1000 times more than the drug costs to make. Please go see a pulmonary dr and maybe you can find alternatives. Damm if animals are found on the road or beaached whales all rx's and treatment is free. Shame on doctors and drugs companies, I hope karma finds you!
