How Long Does It Take To Withdrawal From Clonidine 2 Mg? I Am Here For Answers Because My Doctor Refuses To Help Me
(Newest replies first)

Hi I am wondering how long it will take me to get over the major withdrawals from the Clonidine. I have been taking it since my nervous beak down. I have been begging for my Doctor to wean me off of it within the 1st few weeks after starting it. It says on the paperwork that I can't just stop. I used to be on .18 mgs, then I made it less which is .8 total per day. Now the Doc says I will NOT ever be taken off of it. This Clonidine makes me feel like total crap & I want to be off of it 100% as I will be helping victims and their family members get all the right answers, which they deserve. I am NOT as depressed as I was & the only reason why, is because I know I am doing the right thing to help with my heart. My grandpa passed Feb 1999, grandma March 7th 1999 from a broken heart and my father in 2006 to cancer (3rd type took his life) My biggest goal is to become a World Renown Cold Case File Solver, my family & friends and this way I can give loved 1s the exact reason to how a loved 1 passed away. My Doc is constantly saying that they will not help me get off of this crap.......I am in need for any & ALL feedback with the answers I am seeking.
Thank you very much for the help as I can not even find a website that could tell me how long it takes of feeling like hell froze over X 5,000 times over. I have felt like I am in a constant battle with feeling like I have morning sickness.

Wrong. You need to investigate the dangerous side effects of clonidinebwithdrawal. Clonidine is a hypertension med that works in the sympathetic nervous system. After a while you can build resistance to it then blood pressure can spike dangerously high. Withdrawal has to be tapered off by a doctor. It has rebound effect and blood pressure goes to dangerous stroke level numbers. Much worse than withdrawal from klonipin because of bp spikes. I was in hospital 4 days w bp in high 200s would not come Dow on if meds. Check ou clonidine withdrawal trust me nothing to mess with. Can cause brain calcification loss of oxygen to brain an severe depression and panic attacks upon withdrawal
This drug is very dangerous and I have found the side effects to be unbearable!! I was put on 0.1mg every 6 hours to detox from opiate pain medication. What they don't tell you about is the blacking out daily, tightness in the chest and difficulty breathing, and the feeling that your head and neck feel like they are going to burst from pressure and headache pain. It is VERY DIFFICULT TO GO OFF OF! The stupid doctors don't tell you that when they say oh use it for detox! I've been on it for a month to detox and have never felt worse in my life. And it doesn't help with the pain it makes it worse! I can't wait for the day when I NEVER have to take another pill! I have to wean off and every time I take even 0.5 mg its a living he'll. DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG! Especially if you are thin. It will throw your life into a tailspin!
I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOUR DOCTOR WON'T LET YOU GO OFF IT. .JUST BREAK THEM IN HALF ONE WEEK AT A TIME. .MY DOCTOR IS HELPING ME GET OFF THEM DUE TO BAD HAIR LOSS. .GO SLOW IT'S A BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICINE.
Isabella, I am so sorry that you have gone through this and I think that you have every right to a relationship of trust with your Dr. but this is not what you are experiencing. Even if you have insurance you have a right to change doctors. I would strongly encourage you to meet with a female doctor, possibly in a related but inclusive specialty, if that might offer you a broader outlook for options. Please try and let us know, hopefully I will see it...oh and you might ask about Gabapentin.
Can you hallucinate from taking ambien, trazadone, and hydroxcine?
Its interesting to me, and maybe it's because I use it for blood pressure issues, but I've been on it for at least a year and had no issues with any kind of dependency. I monitor my bloodpressure regularly throughout the day and take .1 - .2mgs when it's elevated depending on the severity.
I've never had a doped up or drunk feeling from it. It's never made me groggy. I can take 10 one day, and 2(I take one in the morning and one at night regardless of BP) the next with no ill effects ASIDE from the dry eyes. But I'll take the dry eyes over the 220/110BP any day of the week.
REALLY?!?!?!? My doc said it isn't habit forming BUTTTT people do get hooked on them ,because they like the drunk dopy feeling! I soooo hope not
I was taking .1 clonidine for HBP which cause terrible headaches. I used the transdermal patch. After 3-4 weeks with no change in BP, my dr. raised it to .2, which caused excruciating head and neck pain and nausea for a week. My doctor took me off and prescribed amlodipine, which I have taken for two days. My problem is I still am having excruciating headaches. When will clonidine get out of my system and when will the headaches stop? Need help now please.
I'm trying to quit taking it also . Dry eyes , pain in my left side , mouth watering . Nervousness , I think it's a dangerous drug . I'm going through menopause and I'm having a very difficult time . Don't think the clonidine helps . Also clonidine makes me halnuciate
Yes, the "saying" you mention is accurate! As a recovering alcoholic/addict with 15 yrs of sobriety, I can wholeheartedly agree. Everyone can become "dependent" and experience withdrawals from meds they take as prescribed for a period of time but that does NOT mean they are an addict or the medication itself is addictive. It's your body reacting/readjusting to the absence of that substance. Once adjusted, a "normal" person will say, "Phew, I'm NEVER gonna take that kind of drug again"..,AND THEY DO NOT! Whereas an addict (like myself) might go through the same miserable withdrawals, say "Phew, never gonna take that kind of drug again"... AND DOES!! At least until hopefully the miraculous occurs and sobriety is seriously sought and maintained daily!!
Stephanie Going though withdrawal symptoms when you stop a drug does not always mean that the drug is addictive. Almost any drug you take and just stop cloud turkey will cause you to have some negative side effects. Some of course are much worse then others. When you take a medication for long period of time your body adjusts to the medication causing you to be dependent on it. There is a saying - a addict is alway dependent on the medication they are abusing but not everyone who is dependent on there medications is a addict.
I am also on Clonidine and I want off of it too. For the same reasons. I am not depressed nor do I have a sleeping disorder. I am so sick and tired of being so thirsty and eyes dried out. I finally found a Doctor that is helping me get off of it WITHOUT other drugs as that was how I wanted it.
I just ranout also and also feel like crap how long did it take to feel better I was taking .2 clonidine
Clonidine is absolutely addictive , & I can attest to that because I'm in active withdrawal as I type. It is my third day and I'm so God darn miserable I just want to die. I would compare it to a lighter version of xanax withdrawals. I cannot wait til all this medication completely out of my system cuz I have no pills left and I am withdrawing like a mother FKR!
Oh wow! Yes, that's horrible and I understand why it's so hard to talk about.
For Clonidine, I'd suggest sticking with a slow taper, to prevent possible rebound effects that might include elevated blood pressure and heart rate, since that could put your life in danger.
The modern preferred method is usually to have someone start skipping doses, while gradually lowering their dosage, at the same time. For instance, at your current dose, you'd start taking it every other day for a week, then every 2 days… while gradually also taking less. But only a doctor can tell you if it is safe for you to do so.
It's very unusual for doctors to feel you won't have a normal life, if you get off of medications. Have you tried getting a second opinion?
Verwon,
It is Clonidine that I take. Klonopin is often mistaken for Clonidine and vise versa. I was purposley put into an induced coma by my ex for over 2 yrs. Then he passed away and I woke up. I had no idea what had happened to that part of my life and my ex was also drugging my toddlers. This is hard to talk about but this is my story. At 1st I had my Doctors check to see why I felt the way I did and they found 7 medications in my system. I found out that I had *Valium, Clonidine, Zyprexa, Seroquel, Amytriptaline, Depakote and Ambien. That is a lot of stuff, considering before this happened I was 1 of those people who would lay in a dark quiet room with a horrific headache. I am down to the Seroquel, Valium and Clonidine by myself because my Doctors refuse to help me. I am in college again to become a Doctor after losing my step daughter to murder and now more than ever I need to be off of these others as well. I also broke my lower back in 95 and T6 in 2011 so I am also taking Oxycodone for that, but I know that is not an issue right now. BUT all of the Psych Meds can be gone now as I have been on them since about 97-98. I keep telling my Doctor that I want my life back and they have the odasity to tell me that I can not live a normal life if I was off of them, when I was fine before and I want that back. I want to be able to sleep without having to take something. My ex knew a whole bunch of Pharmicists and that was how he was getting meds to keep me in a coma. None of this was fair to me, but especially my kids.
Hello, Isabella! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you've been having.
However, which medication are you asking about, Clonidine or Klonopin?
They are two different types of medications, but can both treat anxiety.
Klonopin is a benzodiazepine that's used to treat anxiety and nervous disorders. It carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability.
However, Clonidine is completely different and is used to treat many medical conditions, including high blood pressure and anxiety. It is not habit forming and its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, insomnia, headache and dry mouth.
Klonopin would require a slow, careful taper, but Clonidine does not.
I want off of the Clonidine so bad for a few reasons....1 being thirst....2nd being eyes dried out 3rd reason the dizziness id extremely intense and so on.
Thanks again
