How Long Does It Take For Hydroxyzine To Work

I have itching with no rash, Dr prescribed this rx yesterday and so far not much relief

They should have started having some effect within 15 to 20 minutes of taking one. The FDA classifies this medication as an antihistamine and it is used to treat allergic reactions. Its typical side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, somnolence and sedation.

However, if the itching isn't due to an allergy, then these pills won't help.

Are you on any other medications?

I was prescribed hydroxyzine (50mg, 6x a day) for itching caused by psoriasis, an autoimmune disease. It worked very well but I also slept a lot at first. Now I don't even feel sleepy, but they still work. Taking by mouth as prescribed is the quickest way to feel relief usually around 20-40 minutes.

I have the same problem I've been itching for a long time with no rash or anything to show for it so I started taking hydeoxyzine .. But so far nothing has changed been 4 hours since the 1st one and I took another one about 20 minutes ago

My scalp and spots on entire body have been itching tremendously for about five days. I tried over-the-counter antihistamines like Benadyl and tea tree oil for itching and did not get any relief. I went to a dermatologist who could not determine the cause of the itching since there was no rash so he did some blood tests and blood cultures and I won’t have results for 2 to 3 weeks! In the meantime he prescribed Hydroxyzine hack 10 mg to take 1-3 at night for the itching. When I did that I itched all day instead. I also take Xanax and Buporion and duloxetine for anxiety and depression. I don’t know what to do at this point to counteract the itching that is so intense mostly in my scalp.
