How Long Clonidine Withdrawals Last Cold Turkey? (Top voted first)
UpdatedOmg I'm f***n miserable! I didn't think I would have withdrawals this bad after only a month and a half of taking thus drug everyday. It's literally comparable to a milder xanax withdrawal. Yes, I did abuse it. I would take 3 0.1 mgs 2-3 times a day. Tolerance goes up extra quick with this drug. I have none left and I'm on my 3rd day of feeling like s***. I'm on a hundred and 30 milligrams of methadone every day, and it's not even taking care of me in the morning times because of how s***ty I feel. Woah good lord I f***d up royally lol my tolerance for things is always extra high because of how long I've done drugs. I refuse to tell my clinic and I just need some help because I can't find any info about how long it stays in the body when you stop it cold turkey. Anybody have any information for me it would be greatly appreciated so I will have something to look forward to, cause lord knows hating life right now.
Happy to report that I'm completely back to normal. Thanks for all your info!
Hey, thanks for the reply...thank the Lord of was only 6 days. I literally went to an Express care 9pm that next night, and broke down to the doctor. As expected, she would not do one single thing for me, even though my blood pressure was up to 152 over 99. This is the reason addicts usually hide what's really going on with them. She gave me some phenergan for the nausea, with a nice little scowl on her face. She told me to tell my normal doctor about it,which I couldn't do because I could have been thrown out of my methadone program. I feel a hundred percent better now and I won't ever touch that s*** again! Never in my wildest dream did I think a blood pressure medicine would cause that much trouble!
Hello, i have terrible anxiety and i have taken xanax and clonazapam for mine along with antidrepessents. I know how hard is it to feel so bad.. I currently take 0.5 of clonazapam once in the morning and it doesn't help so my dr prescribed me clonidine to take at night 0.1 but, i am afraid to start it. I have normal blood pressure so it just makes me more anxious thinking about taking something that could cause my body more harm than good. Then on the other hand i hate feeling anxious 24/7.. I have never abused my meds but believe me I know the physically form anxiety takes on your body. I started exercising and this has helped me tremendously. I also eat healthy. It really works wonders.
Hello, Stefanie! How are you feeling? I'm very sorry about what you're going through.
It can vary from person to person, but may take a month, or so, for the withdrawal effects to fully taper off and for you to feel back to normal.
Typical withdrawal effects according to the FDA information may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea and chills.
Have you consulted your doctor? They might be able to help you with these problems.
It's been 2 weeks, and my clinic has not said one word to me. I don't see my regular primary care physician often, and I don't plan on it. I hate doctors because of how they make me feel. A lot are completely uneducated about addiction, and assume all addicts do nothing but drug seek. The reason I mentioned the blood pressure is because mine is usually 110 over 70-80. To me that seems high. I don't know, I just feel like maybe there is a medication out there that she could have given me to help with the withdrawal itself. Doctors are always so scared to help. I would have just stayed home if I knew that she wasn't going to do one thing for me. But like I told her, I'm just going to chuck this up as a mistake on my part, and completely abstain from use of this drug ever again. People with anxiety conditions such as mine will try to do anything and everything they can to call me in your eyes because it takes on a physical form to tour body. I don't have to even be anxious or nervous about something to feel the physical pain of anxiety all over my body. For the first two weeks Clonidine was perfect. I literally can't take any medications for my anxiety, which is absolutely apparent now. I've tried different antidepressants and can no longer take benzos. Guess I'm just going to have to ride the rest of my life out in anxious hell. Ty for your input.
Stephanie WOW....its sounds like your telling my story to a T! Exactly like you I f***ed up and started taking Clonidine. ....huge mistake. I also have super bad anxiety to were I can't breath and my heart is about to burst out of my chest and its gotten to were I've passed out. Anyways I've been taking Clonidine for about 5 mos now the last time I tookany was yesterday afternoon and I took 5 of the 0.2 & 2 of the 0.1 its to the point my tolerance is so high I'm afraid I will OD on these damn things. I have got to stop because I can't do this s*** anymore at all. I'm also on 130mgs of Methadone. So after 6 days you gelt better? Every time I've tried to stop I puke so much I just want to die. Did you experience that? Did the Phenergan help at all. Any and all help or suggestions are truly appreciated.
Don't want to damper, but I thought Suboxone withdrawals last much longer after the acute stage. Good for you to get off Suboxone, it takes courage and everything you've got in you to do that, I admire your bravery and courage and commitment. :)
I am very sorry, but also very glad that you're feeling better.
The elevated blood pressure was likely due to a rebound effect and those numbers aren't considered dangerous, which is most likely why the doctor didn't do anything about that. It's high, according to the NIH charts, but not so high that you'd be at risk of a serious cardiac event and some of it was also probably due to the way you were feeling, as well.
If you went to an express care, your regular doctor and Methadone clinic will probably find out about this, anyway. It will be noted in your medical records, so coming clean with them about it would probably be the best thing to do.
When do you see your doctor, again?
I do understand! My fiancé suffers anxiety when around large crowds of people and it's awful to see. I know you have absolutely no control over it.
Have you tried seeing a psychiatrist to see if they might be able to help more?
Julia it is NEVER good to take 2 of the same class of medication even when a Doctor says it is okay. If you are on a high pressure medication already I would NOT take the other high blood pressure medication Clonidine. I don't care if people say I am wrong. I am in med school and I am on Clonidine and I have been trying to get off of it for 15 years and I finally found a Doctor that would help me as it is VERY VERY ADDICTIVE!!! But because I am not a Doctor YET do not go by what I say. I am just trying to help you not getting addicted to another med, especially when you are already on a high blood pressure med already. I DO NOT believe in TOLERANCE as anyone could die just by taking a med the right way. I hope the best for you and God Bless!!
Honey,
I am confused about your withdrawal. You are withdrawing from Clonidine? You aren't using the Clonidine to help you with your Methadone withdrawal - not the other way around, hence my confusion. Please explain because it isn't making much sense to me.
I have a question has anyone tried to wean off the clonidines? Without having the withdrawl symptoms? Or should I just go cold turkey and suffer for a week? I'm a single mother of four and staying in bed is NOT an option I need some help to get off this medication. Like you I am on the methadone program and was given clonidines for sweating and I can't stand taking them anymore. I gained so much weight since taking them I want off it was a huge mistake starting them. So should I wean off or go cold turkey? Does it make a difference?
I just went through six weeks of hell getting off Suboxone and waiting for my body to adjust. I was prescribed Clonidine 0.1 for that and now I'm almost out. Now, more hell? Can't wait! I'm gonna try and wean down on what I have left. I had 120, now about 15 left. Ugh.....glad it's 6 days and not 6 weeks though. This may be nothing compared to sub withdrawal.
Hey young lady, my name is Ms Yvonne. I am older and wiser. So, listen-up. The same way u talk to us and the same way u talk about the doctors, please, please, please talk to yourself. Its called self talk therapy. Also, go on line and goggle natural treatments for anxiety. Invest in yourself. You were smart enough to come off drugs. You are smart enough to figure it out. Just remember, one day at a time, don't worry about tomorrow. Everything in life takes time, don't rush, take your time, and keep going forward!
I have sort of an unusual issue called hyperhydrosis (severe sweating for no reason) of my trunk front and back. The specialist prescribed clonodine 0.1 2x a day. I took the drug for 6 weeks. the specialist told me to take it religiously. The drug dried up the sweating but also my mouth, nose & throat. I had no saliva so I could not swallow solid food unless I had a drink to get it down. However, the drug made me very sick, i.e. dizzyness, clumsyness, headache, nausea, salty taste in my mouth, drowsiness and more.
I went to see him 3 days ago and he told me to not take it any more. However, I did not realize I would feel kind of sick being off it. Approx. how long will it take to get out of my system? I'm going cold turkey. I was not prescribed anything else.
I feel bad for some of the posters with their awful issues. God bless and I hope you find the relief you are looking for.
I completely understand how anxiety consumes the whole body....I feel trapped underwater ready to pass out at times. I can't leave the house, My body shakes and my head jerks bobs, my voice is broken up...I look and sound like someone in withdrawals, yet I'm not. I do know what withdrawals are like only too well. I feel like Methadone is liquid handcuffs! Top 3 in my books! Hope you get to feeling better. No ones should just have to " live" with anxiety without help! Most doctors have the " God Syndrome ", would be nice if more had a even tolerable bedside manner. Some are compassionate and decent and use their knowledge to truly help! Others just ABUSE it....
That is so awesome. I am proud of you.
Hi. I was just wondering has ANYONE sussefully weaned off clonidines? I am tired of being tired ALL THE TIME and want off this drug. It was prescribed to me for sweats on methadone. And I honestly wish I never started! But when I try to stop I sweat sweat sweat. And I want to has anyone tried warning off until it's no longer needed without the awful withdrawal or should I just go cold turkey and suffer for the week?
When I originally made this thread, I was coming off of clonidine, which I got from a friend 4 my anxiety. I was on 130 methadone, which I thought would help my withdrawal, but didn't. It took 6 days to come off of the clonidine, even while I took 130mgs of methadone. For those of you that wish to take clonidine for a withdrawal from alcohol or pills or whatever, I suggest you take it for as little time as possible. I would compare the clonidine withdrawal to a xanax withdrawal just not as intense as xanax, but just as long. For those of you that take xanax and wish to get off of xanax, I suggest switching benzos instead of using clonidine. I've come off xanax two Major times...the 1st one I had seizures with, and the 2nd time I was smart about it. I did not use clonidine for my xanax withdrawls, but I have for other withdrawals for opiates in the past. The best thing is to switch benzos from xanax to Librium. .. if you are able to switch from xanax to Librium then the hardest part is over...you WILL be in withdrawl mode, but you will be able to handle it. Take a full month and titration DOWN during that month. I swear it was the easiest way, without the use of clonidine!! If anyone has any questions on how I titrated myself off of xanax, just let me know.
By all means "weaning" or tritating down is preferable to going cold turkey. Some of it depends what drug you were using that you would receive Clonidine, opiates?
