I am on 3mg XR twice a day plus 2mg IR twice a day for break threw anxiety, I know its at the very top I don't think they can prescribe any higher? Just tolerance it
has been 10 yrs on 2MG IR 3 times a day. Anyway It seems to take about 15min with my IR 2MG and I can't tell when my 3mg XR is kicking in assuming its because I have a steady dose of Alprazolam in my system. I do feel that it is working very well and I no longer need my IR 2mg I can now take just one 3mg XR a day. I believe within half an hour the XR 3mg starts to kick in if I have not taken it and it is out of my system in around the 15hr range not 24 like they would have you believe lol.
ER, XR, SR, CR and others all mean the same thing, they just designate the medication as being a time released formulation, so it doesn't really matter which abbreviation someone used, or which their pharmacy uses.
As to how long it takes to start working, it will start entering your blood stream and having some effect within about 15 to 20 minutes of taking it.

This is a benzodiazepine, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, headache and irritability.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Can I break a 3 mg xr tablet in half and only take half of it and still be ok
You should never break any extended release meds. It defeats the point of being extended release
It can also release a dangerous amount of the medicine in a shorter amount of time and is not suggested
I take zanex 2 mg extended release once a day starting today ,will I still have enough in my system to sleep every night without freaking out ?
Yes it is extended release formula I instead of instant release
Time release technology (also known as sustained-release (SR), sustained-action (SA), extended-release (ER, XR, XL), timed-release (TR), controlled-release (CR), modified release (MR), or continuous-release (Contin)) is a mechanism used in pill tablets or capsules to dissolve a drug over time in order to be released slower and steadier into the bloodstream while having the advantage of being taken at less frequent intervals than immediate-release (IR) formulations of the same drug.
