How Long Before Testopel Pellets Start Working? (Page 20) (Top voted first)
UpdatedJust had Testopel pellets inserted in my backside. Forgot to ask doctor how long until they take effect. He's out of town.
Don, I agree with Bob.
The Testopel is a much better delivery, than the shots. Shots give you too much testosterone at once, causing your levels to go too high. Causing a rise in Estrogen as well. I did Androgel to start, useless. Then Testopel. Worked great, but learned a better way. I tried the shots, after Testopel, Injecting myself, weekly. But still too high off a level, in the days right after the injection.
I now use injectable testosterone, sublingual.
The best, cheapest method I've .found.
What Ginger talks about, bio identical testosterone implants, ate better than the Testopel. But still more money than needs to be spent for hormone replacement.
I got 14 pellets 3 days ago and I have almost been feeling sick the last few days. My stomach has been upset and I have had no energy. Is this normal for the first few days or am I having a bad reaction to the pellets? I've been taking injections all my life so I wanted to try the pellets to see what a constant dose would feel like. The pain from the procedure is pretty significant also. I can't workout or even sit on my right butt cheek. Has anyone else had these symptoms or experience?
Jmo-- I've not heard of this reaction before. If you are feeling this way, I would put a call into your Doc. It may be coincidental and be completely unrelated to your implantation. Some soreness and/or bruising may occur, but nausea is not something I've ever heard discussed here. Since you've had the injections prior to this without problems, I wouldn't think your body would react this way. But, I'm not a doctor ...you should call yours. I'd check your temperature and BP and have this info for him when you call. Good luck with this and hope you feel better soon.
I'm so glad I opted out of this drug.
Heard more bad things from some other guys.
What I gather is you need a big fat butt to not have the pain. If you are lean you are going to hurt.
It's back to injections but I will do them twice a week with half as much to maintain a more even balance.
Been on gels and jabs for over a year to no real effect going for implants next week are they any better ?i hope so
Don: just a quick comment regarding pain/soreness after implantation. The very first implantation I got (2010), I was quite sore. Told Doc the next time and he raised the site where it is now almost parallel to belt line and I've not had the extreme pain since. Hope this helps.
A lot of times they can be tender because they have been placed too deep and are int the muscle. They are supposed to be placed in the subcutaneous fat.
Please excuse me for going OFF topic, but the guys (and occasional gal) on this thread have always been so helpful. I was prescribed FLOMAX for BPH and all of it's common maladies including "dribbling", "frequency", "urgency" .........after just three (3) days I found some minimal improvement, but the accompanied side effects were totally unacceptable. I had severe and almost complete ED, as well as the inability to climax at all. I went from intercourse 2-3 times a week, to nothing. I stopped taking this drug five (5) days ago, but still no relief from these unwanted and severe side effects. I'm hoping the problems are not permanent. Anyone with some ideas or suggestions re: this matter. I thank you in advance and again apologize for using this thread for assistance.
Bob, I took Flomax for years, without the side effects you mention. And it did great, helping flow. It works by relaxing muscles in the prostrate.
I had the green light laser procedure, Holap, in the fall of 2011. So no need for Flomax after that. The Holap procedure worked great.. None of the side effects, the Dr said I would get. Should have done it 5 years earlier
James -- thanks for the info. I appreciate it. In 2010, I had my left testicle removed because severe prostate infection "ate through" part of the testicle causing me constant and severe pain. Now with the BPH, I know am more cautious realizing I'm "shooting on one (1) cylinder". Having intercourse 2-3 times a week and then going to NOTHING is frustrating. I am hoping the side effects will reverse soon. It has now been six (6) days since stopping the Flomax. Thanks again for your response.
I have tried shots and Androgel 1.65, and I am considering Testopel. My TT was 220 in Dec, then 167 in Jan, so my doc started me on the Androgel first and I switched to injections. My next reading was 173, free was 4.2. I thought it might be related to the Crestor I have been taking so to find out I stopped everything - Crestor, and HRT at the end of Feb. Tested again in May and my level had had gone up to 250, with free at 8.2. Still far too low.
So I started back on Androgel while waiting for an appointment with a urologist about Testopel. I just found out my insurance will cover the procedure and 80% of the pellet cost. Urologist said he would use 14 pellets, so my cost would be $280 + copay of $35, $315 total.

I looked into bioidentical doctors in VA, and I've been very unimpressed with their bios and what else I've seen on their site. For example, one I communicated with had on their website a way to submit your info, and included a request for SSN, but they are not using a secure site (https), and the correspondence comes from someone on an AOL email address. This was the reply I got:
Thanks for your concern. I will ask our web person as the form should be secure. No one has to fill in their Social Security Number on line. This can be done in the office. Honestly you do not have to fill the form out on online and until you become a patient, we do not need this form filled out.
When you email from the website, the emails forward to my AOL account. This is the way it was set up and has not been a problem.
If you are uncomfortable about anything, please do not make an appointment. RejuvinAge has been in business for 10+ years and if a potential patient is ever uncomfortable, we may not be the right choice.

I really want to find a doctor that understands how all hormones and vitamins work together and not suboptimize. For example, my Vitamin D has been extremely low (22), so I am on a supplement to fix that. But what about DHEA, HCG, estrogen, zinc, etc.?
Lots of questions, as it's a major issue I've never dealt with before. Appreciate any thoughts and insight.
Just had the pellets inserted 8 days ago and got a very bad bruise on my butt. Feels the size of a golf ball and just as hard. Anyone else? What to do and will this go away?
Algran: there is usually bruising, but the extent and severity varies. Some guys seem to be more bothered than others. I had significant pain/soreness/bruising with my 1st implantation, in 2010. I talked to Doc and he raised the site SLIGHTLY for the next and all successive implants. This has helped me considerably. I hope this helps and also that you receive the success that I have enjoyed since starting with the TESTOPEL .
Dear Algran, Bob is correct. Site acceptance is varied by each patient. GOLFBALL size, are you kidding me? Dial the doc up and get him to take charge.
A note for ALL, I was always active in sports and in XLNT shape. In the 90s I took my doctor's advice and went on Statins for a couple years. And there (I was in my 60's) went my usual libido to the point that they prescribed the blue pill which only gave me a Rudolph nose and ears (how can a med deliver to an address that far off?).
So, finally got off statins and, through research, started Testopels. I'm in my 70s now and have pretty much recovered most (not all) of my libido and muscularity.
A further note: I have come to learn that doing lower body exercises like squats (weight training that gets more blood flow to your butt - Gluteus Maximus) actually has a residual effect on any ED problems as it gets the blood flow in the groin area going.
Notice the difference in size of our asses when in our 20s to our later years. What's the saying? Use it or lose it. Sitting on our asses in later life is not the healthiest approach.
Happy Squats Gents.
So here is my backround. I am 34, 5'11, 230lbs. back in December I had a testosterone test done due to weight gain, depression, and other issues. my level was 117. went on testim, liked the results but was sick of putting on gel everyday. on testim my level was 763. I had 14 pellets inserted on 6/25. had level checked on 7/25 and was at 630. First few weeks I felt great. now 7 weeks in I am starting to feel lethargic and unmotivated. I was hoping to be around 700 around now but to me seems the drop off is more quick than I had expected. my next insertion is at the end of September and i am scared how low my level will be by then.
Ginger,
Who is the best BHRT doctor in VA? Do you know?
Craig -- it is so hard to make 'sweeping statements' as to the length of effectiveness in men, because each guy seems to react in his own way. I've known men that are quite satisfied with 6-month intervals, not feeling they need anything more frequent. I have but one (1) testicle due to removal of one by surgery in 2010. Shortly after that time, my testosterone level was only 87. I did the shots for awhile, but soon transitioned to TESTOPEL implants with ten (10) pellets every three (3) months. That's as long as I can go and even with this duration, the last few weeks before it is done, I'm in great need and am anxiously looking forward to the many benefits I receive from the TESTOPEL. I'm a 69-year-old man weighing 199. I hope this helps.
Hi. I just received my second implantation of Testopel. After failing to see increases in T-Levels with Androgel (it actually went down to 83), I did ten pellets in my right buttock cheek. A month later, my T-Level was 420. Big improvement. 4 months later, it was at 330. Then it dropped to 191. Time for the second round, this time 12 pellets in my left cheek. Ultimately, I've lost weight, feel less muscle aches and pains, feel more energy and vigor. I'm eating carefully, kicked the soda habit and replaced it with water, and have started riding my bicycle on a nearby bike trail. People who work with me are saying, "You look different. More relaxed, slimmer and even younger." My libido definitely got a boost, and my wife has definitely noticed ;) Everyone is different; my experience has been very positive so far. I'm 45, almost 46. Good news is that the doc explained if I keep up the exercise and diet routine, I can eventually wean myself off the Testopel and allow my body to produce the healthy levels naturally. I'm going to try to go as long as possible between implantations, as long my levels are above 300.
John, I apologize for being so late in responding! There are practitioners in Newport News, Chesapeake, and then several in Maryland, and N. Carolina. They are extensively trained in TRT as well as hormone optimization, including thyroid and Vitamin-D. Hope this helps!
They always leave out info on how to find these drs by doing a web search...biote is not hard to find if you just look.
