Hi Faith! Just to let you know, you're not alone going through this. Many of people have gone through this including myself. I was on 110mgs of methadone and tapered down to 24mgs. I was on methadone due to pain and addiction issues. My problem was when I got down to 24mgs I was going through some pretty bad withdrawals. My doctor prescribed me suboxone to help with the withdrawals. The main thing is to taper VERY slowly so you feel the least bit of withdrawals. Methadone is a very strong medication and some people require a life time maintenance dose. I hope everything works out for you. You've come so far. Any other questions I will be happy to try and help you. Just remember, you're not alone.

Thanks so much for your reply Cats68! I feel better knowing someone is going through same issues. IVE been tapering for about 6 months and lately im just gettimg so tired of all the control withdrawing has on me.ive allready been controlled by methadone for 12 years, and now the withdrawal makes me totally useless, but not giving up! Im on dailies, which is what I want, and my Doc lets me have control to tell the pharmacy when I feel like going down, this way makes me feel more in control and not scared thst it will go down and im not ready. Anyhow, i was going about 10% of dose until 5days ago i went from 30 to 25 and today, only 5 days later, down to 20mls. So im on day 5 of dropping 10 mls all together. Insane, and im still alive, im on clonadine and clonazapam, but I dont know if im waiting for a bomb to go off. Ive come off different ways and know the painn involved, too well! Anyhow, I just like to be able to talk about this issue freely, with ppl who understand. I thought methadone was causing depression and weight gsin, but both havent changed. I really hope things are better with out it.? Thanks for your time

Hi Faith! When I was withdrawing from methadone I went through feeling depressed. The withdrawals not only effect you physically but also psychologically. I have anxiety disorder and I'm on klonopin also. The anxiety was much worse when I was withdrawing. The longer someone is on methadone the longer it takes to feel better. That's why I had to go on suboxone once I reached 24mgs of methadone. I could have stayed on it and increased my dose but I wanted to get off. So I went on suboxone for the withdrawals and my medical issues. I give you a lot of credit. You are doing so well with your taper. Just remember, if you feel really bad then slow it down.

Im pretty sick, only second night at 20, but thinking of suboxone. Would I have to wean off it? Or just a 4 or 5 day thing? Ive heard so many different things, but I'd like to hear from someone actually doing it. All these text book docs and I never meet ppl that actually come off.thanks for being inspirational

Hi Faith, I know how you feel. You would have to talk with a doctor about how long you would be on suboxone. They know the amount and for how long. If you chose that route it shouldn't take much to help you because you're low now on the methadone. Let me know how you make out.

Thanks Cat, I feel so s***ty today, omg. It takes a couple days yo it to really hit. Its like I tickingbtime bomb, never knowing if the next day will be worse. Im going on holidays with my don for a week on Friday. I just want to be stable on 20 before I go. It will be 5 days at that dose when I leave. I dont want to take clonadine when im gone either cus it makes me sooooo lazy.did you gain weight on methadone? I sure have, the only time it would go away is if I'd be relapsing on uppers. but I got off meth a few years back with that rapid opiate detox, and the weight went away so fast.i sure hope it goes away again.thanks Cat . where are u anyways?im in British Columbia, Canada. On the west coast, on Vancouver island.Its a pretty big island. Its not like aIm in the middle of nowhere. Its just a short ferry to the mainland. Im close to Victoria. B.C, the capital. And how are you feeling? Are you stable on your dose? Do you feel sick at all? Just wondering, dont have to answer :) have an awesome day!

Hi Faith! OMG! I gained 50 lbs when I was on methadone. I've always been a small person and I was so big. But,as soon as I got off the methadone I went right down to my normal size 4. That's one of the side effects of that medication. I'm from Rhode Island, the smallest state. I'm stable on 24 MHD of the suboxone a day. I have no cravings or side effects. It works well for me. I hope you have a nice vacation and you're not sick. Methadone is a VERY potent medication and takes AWHILE to get out of your system. You could feel crappy for weeks. ( I'm not trying to scare you) maybe you should take your clonodine incase you need it at night. Have fun and keep me posted on how you're doing. Any other questions, I'll try to help.

I am so happy to hear about the weight!! I thought some of it woul have started to come off allready but it feels like ive gained more, cus I quit smoking about a month ago.well, didn't totally quit, im on the e vaporizer, so still getting nicotine.so, theres jo weight gain with suboxone? Its pretty new here in Canada, so I dont know much about it.Do you wake up sick and have to take it? Hi Faith, when you quit smoking you can put on weigh, too. I've had no weight gain on the suboxone not has anyone I know that's on it. To start suboxone you must be in withdrawals. And from what you said, you are. Then you just take it usually once a day. You try to take it at the same time everyday. It takes away ALL of the withdrawals and cravings, too. Why? Are you thinking about going on it?

Hi Cat, thanks for replying, I have noone that really understands this, so you are really helping me. Because suboxone is really new here, everyone has a different opinion. Some ppl say its the miracle drug, some say its methadone in a pill.im at a new meth clinic, cus my last doc didn't support me coming off. I know its cus they make so much money from it.so my new doc, doesnt have a licence tp prescribe it. Very few doctors do. But its really popular on the street, so I was thinking just to do one more jump of 5 mls, so im at 15, and go on suboxone for a week. Again, I have no professional opinion, but I dont trust the system here anyways. Its not their life they're effin with. But im staying on 20mls now for a week cus im going on holidays.i think its day 5 right now at 20, and I dont feel that bad. A little nervous brecause ive made it down to 17mls before, and couldnt handle it anymore, and went back up.
For me, I think the bigger and faster drops work better.i just dont have the patience to go one or 2 mls at a time. Its the same sick if I go 5mls every 4 days. FOR NOW. Im no way in the clear and know it will be tough, but would ratherrip the bandaid off fast, then slow. I have to find my charger for my e cigarette, or im gonna flip. Take care and thanks so much:)

Hi Faith, if you decide to go on suboxone, let me know. I would start with the lowest dose. If that doesn't help I would go up a bit more. That's how most people I know have done it. Keep me posted. Have fun on your vacation. As far as smoking, I smoke cigarettes and I know it's a bad habitt. I've tried the electric ones but they don't work for me.

Hi Cat, I think its going through because we seem to be in tune with each other.like, you always comment on something I just said, like me going on vvacation and quitting smoking, etc. Suboxone. Im slways wondering if I send it right, cus of the scrambled words thing. One time I thought it sent, then looked the next dsy snd it was still sitting there. I gotta charge this, thanks Cat:)

hi Cat, thank you! Can I take suboxon to help with withdrawals? Or is it one or the other? Noone knows very much about it here? I have wifi here, so thats good. So im on 20 for this week, when I get back I'll continue decreasing. I actually feel pretty stable today, just hopimg I dont need to take clonadine, I hate that s***. I hope im not bugging you

Hi Faith, if you're in withdrawals from the methadone, yes you can take suboxone. But, you can only take one or the other. You can't take them together. My doctor gave me 2 choices when I was withdrawing as I tapered down to 24mgs from the methadone. He told me to either increase on the methadone or I could go on suboxone. I didn't want to be on methadone anymore so I chose the suboxone. Luckily my doctor could prescribe it. He had a license to do so. Did you go on vacation yet? How was it? Been on methadone since october. Was at 115 MG a day. I hate the side effects and want to get off asap. Found a doctor that is tapering me and this is the 2nd month and I am down to 90 a day. Will I still go through those awful withdrawals when I get down to about 20 a day? Don't want to get hooked on sub as an alternative. I just want off of all of it. Advice?

Hi desperado, I was on 110mgs of methadone and tapered down to 24mgs. I started feeling withdrawals around 35mgs. By the time I reached 24mgs I was withdrawing very badly. I didn't want to stay on the methadone so I chose to go on suboxone. To answer your question, you could feel withdrawals for awhile even after getting off the methadone. Methadone is a very potent opiate and has a half life. But there are medications your doctor can give you to help ease the withdrawals.

My doctor is very supportive so I feel he will give me what I need to get through but was praying slow withdrawal would prevent symptoms. Looks like I may have to plan way ahead for vacation time. I truly admire the courage of those going ct. I would love to be clean of all of it.

I already know that i will have to be on a pain medication, probably the rest of my life. I did fine on the pain regimen I was on before methadone. My primary care doc at the time recommended methadone. He convinced me that was the way to go. It has me leery of trying any other mess like sub. The side effects have robbed me of a life. Other than work I never leave home or my bed. I took my prescribed 4 pain pills a day and loved life. Doc wants to take at least a year to get me off meth. Crazy 9 months to get on and 18 months to get off. If I didn't have a job I would attempt ct. My son is also on meth but he was up to about 30 pills a day. The meth has saved him. I guess each situation is different. I so appreciate hearing I am not alone and an anonymous sound off. Thanks for listening.

Hi desperado, I'm still on suboxone. I chose to stay on it because i have a lot of medical problems and it helps take the edge off the pain.
