Headache And High Blood Pressure

Recently while on vacation in Arizona, I got a severe headache ( I think from a strain?), went to a clinic & they said my blood pressure was 185/110. Their first drug (lisinopril 20 mg) was for blood pressure and also an injection of toradol. Two days later the headache was still there and they prescribed a pill (Butalbit/acetam/caf 40 mg/tablet ). The headache and BP are in control but I am concerned on taking a barbiturate, is there an alternative and what would be the process to eliminate the drugs. General research shows Butalbit is being discontinued?? or not a preferred choice.

Hello, Marie! How are you feeling? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having.

There is a chance that the headache was due to your blood pressure being so elevated. It can cause severe ones, for years, it was thought that I had migraines, until it was later discovered that I was suffering blood pressure spikes. Since getting it under control, I no longer get migraines.

Thus, after conferring with your doctor, it might be best to just come off of the migraine med and see if you still get headaches.

What is your blood pressure level, now, with the Lisinopril?

As to alternatives, if you still end up needing something for headaches, there are many available, including the Toradol that they gave you first. It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation.
