Grapefruit Juice And Benzos

I've read and had a dozen pharmacology courses, but this was over 20 years ago. What is the deal with drinking grapefruit juice combined with benzos (such as xanex)? I have heard and read various reports. Can someone give me the straight info?

Grapefruit juice can have an affect on the liver and change how it processes some medications, specifically the ones that are processed and affect by the same enzymes.

To simplify things, when it comes to benzodiazepines, it tends to increase their bioavailability, which could cause overdose.

These medications carry the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability.

To Verwan, or anyone. I take Xanax .05-1.00 mg about every other day and it definitely helps my anxiety. My question is I am taking a new supplement called GSE, Grapefruit Seed Extract, liquid concentration, about 10 drops a day in orange juice; this is to help with a yeast issue I have going on in my stomach/gut. I took a u/a called OATS, and it proved to be fascinating and shed some light on why my stomach just hasn't been right. Although I'm dealing with many health issues, like most of us, my main question/concern is how Xanax and this grapefruit seed extract may interact. Thank you very much for your time!!
