Hi Denise,

Personally I think it would be a good idea to contact a veterinarian before treating any animal with any medication - Regardless of whether it's a cream or pill for ingestion. The way their system reacts/responds to many types of drugs can be vastly different from what we perceive as normal, so it's better to be overly safe than take even a slight risk with our pets. Something else worth noting is that if the cream isn't used properly, one of its active ingredients (Betamethasone - a steroid) may make some skin conditions worse off.

Our vet usually prescribes Otomax for any hot spots/infections, which has the same ingredients as Gelmicin. So it SHOULD be ok. Having said that, it's always better to check with a vet first.
