Sorry to say. Subxone is not a pain drug. It is used for patients with a drug addiction to needle drug abuse. Found this out the hard way. When you do find a doc to prescribe legitimate pain meds. You will be discriminatied for ever taking this med for pain. Repeat it is not pain medicine.

Hello Amber (and Goldie),

I too suffer from chronic pain due to degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, and bone spurs on my cervical and lumbar spine. My doctor at UCLA has me taking Suboxone as a pain management and it is the ONLY thing that works for me. I hate to take drugs and I got fed up with all the medications they were giving me, so I let them know that if I had to live like that I was not going to do it for much longer. That is when they got me in to see this wonderful doctor and he has worked with me for five years now, so you are on the right track! Let me know if you need help...

Not true Suboxone and bunavail are wonderful for pain mgmt. I went from 100 mg oxy to Suboxone 8.2 twice a day and in less pain or no pain at all.

Buprenorphine has been used for pain in Europe and certainly is effective for pain managment. It does not provide euphoria but fully blocks MU receptors & reduces pain. And it is not only for those who inject narcotics; it is for any type of opiod dependance, including prescription pain medicine.

You don't need that anymore-
I have discovered Kratom. Google it. Kratom is from God, Subs are from big pharma.

Hey just to let you know sub will help with withdrawal by changing the reaction at the receptor sites. You will feel better ( not sick) but there is a pretty good probability you will be in a bit of pain. Everyone reacts in their own special way so if you tell me where you are i might be able to help

yes Sub was originally invented by 2 scientists in Europe in the 70's for pain ! it is a wonderful drug if you are opiate naive but has a ceiling effect. Also it is very expensive even though generic is now available.

WRONG although it is used like methadone is for addicts it was originally used for pain and still is in Europe and just as of 2011 is being used in patch form like in Europe for pain, read up on its colorful history

Well, when it's time for you to get off Subs, the WD will be just as bad as if o. 100mg oxy.

Goldie well put. It will ruin you for life and the withdrawals are pathetic just as bad as long acting Fentanyl and Methadone. The original poster said for chronic and acute pain clearly is an addict, perhaps she does need to get referred for this medication.

Would like suggestions for a pain Dr in CT. Not clinic as these places seem like warehouses and providers more concerned with how much they're making rather then really treating pain. Have had a tri level cervical fusion, colitis, endometriosis, and herniation to discs in lower back. Also would like a practitioner that doesn't make me feel like a drug addict because I have a legitimate need to take medication. Suggestions please

Please, think about another way to stop pain meds: Kratom. Kratom has been used successfully for 1000's of years. It's legal, it's a natural plant and it works. I'm still amazed, as I was a pain mgmt patient being prescribed dangerous narcotics to just feel normal. Find a reliable vendor-I don't recommend buying from head shops.

I have had the exact same experience. Suboxone SAVED MY LIFE! The pain pill roller coaster is a nightmare. I am an addict, pure and simple. Suboxone not only stopped that, but has greatly helped my pain. I have Degenerative Disc Disease, Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, Sciatica and a myriad of other disorders too far to list here. It is all due to a nearly fatal accident. I'm only 50, do not want to be an addict, refuse to have back surgery but want to function. Suboxone DOES help for pain! {edited for privacy}

You are exactly correct in my area your discriminated against for pain meds and for suboxone I got tired of killing my body to relieve my pain taking up to 6/8 30 mg oxycodone a day morphine dulaudid percs hydros you name it I've been prescribed it then I go to sub clinic ..and find it works better it doesent alleviate all my pain but it makes it tolerable and gives me the ability to function those of us who are unfortunate to have legitimate chronic pain are screwed and when we contact drs asking for this kinda treatmen are labled as drug seakers (thanks to the abusers ) now we suffer with no relieve in sight my only option is to move from suboxone clinic to clinic to keep a regular dosage to function until big pharma invents some other "perfectly safe chronic pain med" ...right

Hello all I just ...UNFORTUNATELY read a few comments that seemed to bash dependence of opiates and "needle" users saying we should seek help or telling us what should work for us. Well not being rude or condescending but if you havent faced this traumatic disease then refrain from discriminating please ..addiction doesnt discriminate. suboxone does help chronic pain. I know this ..it also helps with addiction.. mostly for those of us with chronic pain who dont have the luxury of being able to take just one pain pill it controls this problem for us... no matter how we got here its a wonderful drug. it can be habit forming but what drug isnt? People have withdrawal from blood pressure meds. different things work for different people so while your sitting here in your chair drinking your coffee / alcohol / smoking your cigs / or vaping judging us, look in the mirror b4 you condemn us for we all are addicted to something. This site is for questions and answers, advice and suggestions. I sleep well at night taking my suboxone daily and am content at where ive arrived at in life because of this drug, but again different things work in different ways on different people and we all are entitled to our own opinions but if they are foul discriminating or down right judgemental please keep them to yourself for we are suffering from a disease. we will all be better off when that is realized by those bullet proof people out there or.. god forbid addiction enters their lives. God bless everyone (and those who still suffer especially).

I want to thank you for telling it like it is..for me and those who initially had a legitimate need for perks, oxys, 'dones opanas as well as medical mj. after conniving urgent care centers, er docs, etc, I finally got a script for oxy. things escalated from there. I was able to get my dose raised but I always ran out of medicine long before my next refill appointment. I was discharged from my main clinic because I was simply using that doc as a legal drug supplier and prescribing to me simply because I was dependent on them and needed meds to avoid withdrawal. it has been the past few years I was getting a script based mostly on my diagnostic that turned me into a junkie, always out of prescribed pain pills and being sick. I now attend an intensive out patient where I was started on only 8 mg of suboxone a day. I believe their limit is 12 mg. if more drugs are needed then one is placed on methadone. as per my eval and my verified prescription record I am given 1 week take home. I noticed right away this place doesn't send patients out the door with a script for 16-24 mgs when these people only do 2 mgs a day and sell the other strips. some, if they are able, even trade box for other opiates or methadone. I am an addict plain and simple. I was able to overcome an alcohol problem back in the 1990's mostly on my own. I will need to confront my addiction and the clinic I found will be a good starting point. I see a doctor, a wonderful counselor, SMART Recovery coming soon and just 8 mg of suboxone costing $400 a month. this dollar figure is substantial as per my income. I am on social security disability (on the basis on my pain causing spinal problems), I own my own home, live ok. my children are grown, I live alone - wife died in 2008. I receive other low income benefits as well. at $400 a month this seems to be a fair trade off for me. in time this phase will pass and I plan on not just being older but healthy as I can for my age but also a more reputable person who will no doubt be away from the state correction system..all started from a medical problem that to me justified a prescription for oxycodone.

I'm a recovering addict for 7 years now. For me suboxone was a life saver. And I have been telling my doctors that it helps with pain more than any other opiates that I've taken in the past. I have severe scoliosis and sometimes when I wake up I can't even breathe because of the muscle spasms in my back but I take my Bunavail (same thing as Suboxone) and an hour or so later...wallah...pain is gone and not only can I take a breathe without being in unbearable pain but I can do anything! So yes it's absolutely wonderful for pain management. Not to mention there are no other medications available for recovering addicts. Because of the ceiling effect I don't feel high, although I did for the first week when I started taking suboxone, but as we addicts know that never lasts unless you increase your dosage which we pretty much do not have the luxury to do that. I'm approaching 50 soon and my life is just that....mine...my addiction is no longer in control since I started the sub program. Here's the downfall... I go to Clean Slate and I'm required to go there 2x's a month, counseling once every 5-6 weeks & group with the Dr that writes my script once every 3 months and as far as I know in order for my insurance to pay for the meds I have to remain compliant or they won't cover the subs. That's a lot of time I must invest but it's more than worth it considering when I was actively using every hour of every day was consumed by my addiction.

That is an irresponsible response. We are adults talking about pain, not a bunch of kids tripping out on molly and kratom at some festival. Did your Doctor recommend that to you? Are YOU a Doctor? If not be careful what substances you push on people!

I think Goldie's post was misunderstood when she said Suboxone is not for pain. Yes, it does help a lot with pain and I would love to have it prescribed over any narcotic for my chronic pain issues, but here in America it is not prescribed for pain like it is in Europe. You can get it prescribed to get off pain narcotics / opioids but when I asked my doctor if I could get it for chronic pain she said no, it is never prescribed for that.
