Feeling Really Bad On Flagyl

My dentist prescribes flagyl. I need a root canal and the tooth was infected. Also I am taking a prevpac my dr. prescribed. I am aching all over, dizzy and have a headache. Should I stop taking this? I started friday. I called my dr but she has not returned my call. Please tell me if I should continue or just stop taking it? Ugh, feeling really bad.

That is a bit of a weird choice for a tooth infection, I must admit. This is most commonly used to treat bacterial and fungal infections. It is not a regular antibiotic, per se, and yes it can have significant side effects.

I cannot tell you to stop taking it, since I am not a doctor and no one here is, so for us to try to give you an answer on that would be completely remiss, no one can diagnose or treat over the internet.

If your doctor is not returning your calls, I would suggest speaking to your pharmacist.

GET YOUR DAUGHTER OFF THIS DRUG ASAP! I WILL NEVER TAKE THIS AGAIN. I felt like I was POISONED. I started taking flagyl on Saturday and I stopped on Sunday and am still having digestive problems from it. Ask for an alternative if you have an option. I had Nausea, lethargy, inability to concentrate, depression, tiredness, joint pain, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, stomach pain, vomiting and bad taste. Loss of appetite, and sore throat. I had numbness and tingling in my hands and legs. My legs are still numb. I still feel basically rotten. I can fully understand it when other reviewers say they would rather commit suicide than take this drug again. I feel as if it is a poison rather than a medication. I will look at other options before I take this drug again. It is a very scary drug. I can believe it when people say they have lingering side effects.

Flagyl is probably the best antibiotic for dental infections. A root canal treatment is carried out in order to clean up an infection in the pulp of the root of a tooth. The pulp and the canal are sterile environments. Tooth decay creates holes in the surface of a tooth and if these are not treated, they penetrate the wall of this sterile environment. Although a filling closes the hole of a tooth, bacteria always escape and find their way into the pulp. The filling encloses the bacteria. However, with time they multiply. Keep in mind that the bacteria living in the root pulp do not need oxygen to survive (anaerobic bacteria). Flagyl targets exactly this type of bacteria, while penicillin (e.g. Amoxil) targets those needing oxygen (aerobic). Therefore it is the best treatment for dental abscesses. Flagyl on a low dose 200mg three times a day for 5 days should not affect you so much. If you experience abdominal colic pain, it is a good idea to eat daily a probiotic yoghurt (all antibiotics destroy all bacteria, good and bad, yoghurt helps the intestines restore their natural 'good' bacteria). Apparently, the best treatment for a dental abscess/infection would be amoxil 500mg + flagyl 200mg 3 times daily for 5-7 days. I am not a doctor/dentist, but have a reoccuring dental abscess and only flagyl can fight it most effectively, although strong doses can make you irritable.

I was an alcoholic and after a week of detox I started an outpatient program to help me not relapse. The doctors here prescribe Flagyl to help you stay away of alcohol. They say if you take anything containing alcohol you become really sick. Has anybody heard of this 'treatment' to avoid relapsing?

Thank you so much for your post. I was prescribed flagyl 7 days 2x a day 500mg. I lasted 4 days and on my seconnd day I began to have numbness/tingling feeling in my leg, 3rd it went to my other leg, 4th night my heart was beating very fast, had a headache and felt fatigue. Day 5 and I am no longer taking flagyl, I have ended up in the ER because my heart was beating out of control and thought I was having a heartattack, heart was beating at 124. Today makes it 6 days I have been off flagyl and I have been suffering from dry mouth, I have thrush, blrred vision and still have tingling/numbness in my legs. PLEASE DON NOT TAKE!!!!!

I took the drug Flagyl almost 4 months ago for 7 days.
I still have a terrible, sometimes salty, sometimes
metallic taste in my mouth. Is it at all normal for this
bad taste to linger so long? I posted this question awhile ago but didn't remember the URL. So I'm posting again.

I am not Flagyl right now I just finished throwing up pill 24/30. I am on 3x500mg pills for 10 days. Since day 4 I have thrown up every day from the medicine. My mornings consist of waking up with a stomach ache and having diarrhea while I throw up. Not to mention that this act gives me a rush of blood to the back of my head that feels like an aneurysm and contributes largely to my headache the rest of the day. I feel nauseous all the time. And the l least bad part is a horrible metal stomach acidy taste in mouth. If I didn't "know better" I would say this is poison

Yesterday was my fourth day on flagyl and I was miserable!!! Still kinda miserable.. Stomach ache, feeling sick and slight headache.. I was taking it because of a bacterial infection.. But, got dam I can't take it anymore.. Soo I stopped and I will call my Dr tmrw.. It's miserable..

Is there an anti fungal that can be used in place of flagyl? Ive been on it many times. It just causes severe nausea, diarrhea, terrible headaches, vomiting, dizziness, abdominal pain. I'm taking doxycycline as well. Both of them were prescribed for diverticulitis and kidney infection. I hate this medicine and just wonder if another anti fungal exists to treat these infections?

Im taking the pill rn and im on day 5 out of 7 and I think one of the worst parts about it for me is eveytime i wake up i feel extremely nauseous, its horrible. Also been Having flu like symptoms, and I've been having really bad headaches on and off. A nasty taste in my mouth 24/7, stuffy and runny nose. And it just all seems to be getting worse.

I have done candida cleanses. Having just swallowed my first Flagyl pill? The feeling i got was indescribably bad. I instantly was sorry i took it. These feelings are not candida die off. If you need. A candida cleanse go get candida Ex by universal formulas.its natural. This pill after reading is carcinogenic to lab rats... Im sorry i swallowed it and i wont take another.

I will never take flagyl again. I was taking it for 2 days for suspected giardia and had severe headache, severe nauseau, stomach pain and cramps, muscle pain, tingling, dizziness, metallic taste in my mouth, dark urine, I'm barely able to eat and more. There has to be some other drug to treat this. I had it years ago and took an antibiotic a dr friend gave me and it worked with none of these symptoms. I also really do feel like I was poisoned. It's only 18 hrs since my last dose and I still feel so sick, I hope I recover from this. I called the dr who rxed it and she said to stop taking it but like an idiot I kept taking it for another day. DON'T TAKE IT!

Today is my last day on Flagyl but I'm not going to take my last 2 tablets cuz I think it's been making me sick. I can't sleep at night ,stomach cramps, nausea, blurred visions, irritable, brain fog, flu like symptoms, dizziness and some anxiety like feeling. I was prescribed Flaygl yesterday and I took my first tablet around lunchtime after I was prescribed. Today I feel sick, I have the feeling of wanting to vomit but I cant. I'm nauseated, headache and a weird taste in my mouth all from taking one tablet. I'm prescribed 400mg, 3 times a day for 5 days. I'm scared to take the rest of the course because I don't want to feel these unwanted side affects, when I already have a large amount of pain in my tooth. What do people think?

Am I the only one who feels this medication is making me go completely crazy.I have been feeling so weird since I started taking this antibiotic.I don't even feel myself anymore.I feel like I am in a bubble.plus the bad side effects like diarrhea, nausea, loss of appetite! Can't even sleep really anymore either .I feel like I am a helium ball my burbs have been awful.

Hiya I am presently on this medication and feel also like I am in a bubble. I am also very agitated and angry. Last night refuse to sleep with hubby because I could not stand being in the company of others. I feel very hormonal happy one minute and extremely angry the next. I just want to be left on my own because anything can trigger a verbal outburst. Cannot wait to finish the course feel very tearful , my hubby however is enjoying the fact that I have sent him to the pub this weekend just to see the back of him!!!!!

I was prescribed for BV around Feb 10th, and yes, do not drink alcohol. I was so sorry. Thought I would pass out on my flight to Fl. I had chills, nausea, tingling, got hot and got a headache. Ruined my trip to see my bf. Most days constant nausea.did have bowel issues but not as bad as the nausea. Last pill was 9 days ago and to be honest, I am depressed, lethargic, uninspired and developed metallic gross taste in mouth two days after stopping the Flagyl. I cannot really eat. I can’t find the joy in food. Everything tastes bad. The last 5 days I had broth from soups but would toss the solids. Lost some weight. Today I ordered my favorite burger and could only barely eat half plus three fries. Water taste bad too. The depression is more worrying. I found several articles linking the pill to the depression. I can’t wait until this leaves my body. I am sleeping a lot but waking up tired.

You really shouldn’t take Flagyl as a prescribed antibiotic for that very reason-it’s very hard to tolerate. There are two reasons to take it; one is a sexually transmitted bacteria that both partners have to take for three days. The second is as a pill to augment another antibiotic you are taking. This prevents a situation called c-dificil whereby the main antibiotic could kill off the good and bad bacteria that’s found in the intestines. If the main antibiotic is too strong, it has the capability to kill off the good flora. Talk to your doctor about putting you on a different antibiotic so you can avoid serious side effects.

Flagyl for C Diff: was so sick on this med then developed a system that helps a lot. First I eat a bagel or toast (I know it’s hard to do, just take it slow). Wait 10-15 min. Take 1-2 Florastor, a yeast probiotic that binds to stomach and intestine lining and shows good results in fighting C Diff. Wait 15 minutes. Take the Flagyl tablet. Lay low for another 30 minutes while your body takes in the meds. I don’t feel great, but Im surviving, and I’m sure some of the misery is from the C Diff itself. Prior to this regiment I felt like I had a terrible flu. Hope this helps others.

I wonder why you got a prevpac? I used to have to take antibiotics for any invasive dental procedure, but not anymore. Stop all if it’s making you sick. Flagyl is typically used to piggy back antibiotics for those that can get colitis from antibiotics. It’s also for a type of STI whereby you take three days worth, and your partner takes it at the same time. I don’t think that’s the case here. If you don’t typically have a problem tolerating antibiotics, ask your dentist why Flagyl? It’s not tolerated well by anyone.

It is a poison literally. The only thing that reduces the side effects slightly is probiotics and taking the anti-oxidant L-Cysteine but nobody told me that before I took it. I think only some scientists and nurses know that. It has totally ruined my life literally and that of those around. It should also be prescribed in a life or death situation and be given and supervised at the hospital so the nurses can watch for side effects and help you. A lot of these problems with meds occur on an outpatient basis when we take them on our own and they don't list the bad side effects on the internet and the pharmacists don't know them either. Just the nurses or toxicologists and those specializing in adverse drug reactions: there are books on that for nurses and there are 6 different types.
