Eye Drops With Oxymetazoline (Page 2) (Top voted first)
Updatedreplacement for Visine LR
Just ran out of my last bottle...didn't even realized the LR had beed D/C'd. I'm an optometrist and would suggest diluting the Afrin with artificial tears like Systane vs. Distilled water. Most eye drops are saline based and have PH balanced solutions. I'm going to look into the possibility of developing something for my sister who is a pharmacist to see if the locals can come up with a solution. Bummer.
Those conversations on that other page are from 2010
Over the weekend I tried Afrin nasal spray that also that contains Oxymatazoline as Carlos mentioned earlier. It worked very well, and it lasted a long time. What worries me is that Afrin not sterilized so I only tried it once. According to a pharmacist that I spoke with, using Afrin is just like putting water in your eyes. That means it's possible to get an infection if bacteria is present. I'm pretty sure I get water in my eyes all the time in the shower. Does anyone know more about the risks?
I also tried Opcon-A (contains Naphazoline) and got decent results. I might use this for the mean time, but I still like Oxymatazoline better.
Occuclear has not been available in the U.S. in quite some time. I wish they would bring that eye drop back as well as the Visine Long Lasting. I don't know which eye drops I'm going to use now, since I can only use eye drops that contain oxymetazoline. Not many eye drops have that ingredient, and they burn my eyes when I use it. I'm not a happy camper at all right now!!!!
The only eye drops which work on my eye redness has been visine LR with oxymetazoline HCl. I am having more and more difficulty finding this particular visine. Is there another eye drop with oxymetazoline HCl over the counter? Please advise!
Jerome- No, there is no other eye drop with oxymetazoline that is manufactured in the United States. That is why I am hoping all will sign the petition on change.org
Also, Afrin and Nostrilla nasal sprays, while having the active ingredient of oxymetazoline (are not indicated for use in the eyes.) Some, as you will see on this link, are using them in their eyes because we are all desperate. It is up to you, if you want to try it.
I urge you all to please sign the petition, contact Johnson and Johnson, contact the makers of Nostrilla and/or other companies that currently make products with oxymetazoline and ask them to bring Visine LR back on the market or create eyedrops with oxymetazoline.
You can look below for the websites and/or email addresses to do so. Also on this same website, we are sharing this information on:

Please see my post below about Afrin. Do not use it undiluted. Its been 2 days now and my eyes are clear. There are risks as its not sterile. But same risks as getting water from the shower in your eyes.
It seems odd that they would just discontinue the only two eye drops (LR and Workplace) that contain oxymetazoline without an official explanation. The least they could do is let everyone know why. Have they found some negative long term effects of using it? or what is the issue?
I don't know off any other brands that use oxymetazoline.
Bring back Visine LR. It was the ONLY eye drop that worked for me. J&J can raise the price if the issue was profitability. I'm sure many of us would be willing to pay more to have it.
Thanks, I signed your petition. I spoke with Visine Customer Care today and was told there was a problem with manufacturer and are currently working on a new formula, whatever that means. Was not informed as to what the problem was with the original product. I am on a list to be notified as to when this new product becomes available. HA.....wonder how many years that is going to take.
Simply empty out one of the eye drop bottles you bought that didn't work, rinse it out, pour HALF a bottle of the AFRIN into it and half purified water. Shake it up. Works like Visine LR. Again, I make no representations on safety but it appears to be same stuff and works same for me . ONE bottle AFRIN makes TWO bottles eye drops. Since Afrin is 5% OXY, and Visine LR was 2.5% I cut in half.
Good to know, I'm going there in a month.
Exactly. One bottle Afrin becomes TWO bottles VISINE when you dilute by 50%
Makes sense. The Afrin/Water 50/50 works perfectly for me. One bottle Afrin will give you TWO bottles Visine Long Lasting. Been doing for a year and works fine.
I called Johnson and Johnson today and got the same, discontinued...I asked for the formula so that I could take it to my local compounding pharmacist (they will make anything if they have the exact ingredients and % of ingredients of formula and they said they would never release that to the public...I asked why, if they were not going to market it themselves, why would they keep it from a public that wants the product....we can pay once to make the formula and then keep ordering it after that? Not within her paygrade to respons to it.
I've been using 1/2 Afrin and 1/2 distilled water for about 2 months now as Mark suggested. Burns like hell to start with but seems to be working pretty good. (Instead of Afrin I bought Life brand Nasil mist Decongestant, same type of thing as Afrin).
David, glad the other product worked for you. The vast majority of us have tried everything else on the market with no effectiveness. There are generally 3 or 4 active ingredients that all of the dozens of eye drop companies use. Oxymetazoline is the only one that works for me. Count yourself lucky.
Its really funny, doesn't burn my eyes at all, but I've been using daily for 25 years. Vision is still perfect, no glasses just red eyes every morning. Works like magic for me.
Mix that with 50/50 with water and you have eye drops that work like Visine Long Lasting . Again works for me , try at your own risk.
Bought a bottle of Allergex. So far it's been a week and found it to work exactly the same as the LR. $38.00/15ml. It works for me. Little expensive but I don't like the feel of the tears/Afrin mix which I tried a couple of days. So far very happy.
