Estradiol 1 Mg Watson 487

Updated

I have been taking this pill for about 10 yrs. I refilled my prescription and suddenly I am experiencing hot flashes and sleeping problems (laying awake for hours). Costco says it is the same manufacturer as before (Watson). I am wondering if "bad batches" have been reported lately. My last refill prior to this one was 90 days ago and I had no problems with that refill. My pharmacist says there is no reason and they have not had anyone complain. Are there any recent complaints regarding this manufacturer?

Hello, Cher! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're having.

No, I've not read any reports of such.

However, after 10 years, it could be that it just isn't working for you in this dosage, anymore. Our bodies do tend to get used to anything we take for a long period of time and that causes it to stop working as well. Additionally, your hormone levels may have undergone another fluctuation. Thus, you might just need a dosage adjustment.

Have you consulted your doctor?

The FDA lists this medication as being an estrogen hormone and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS like symptoms.

You are not alone. I have been taking 2 mg Watson brand estradiol for years and every time the pharmacy has substituted a different brand I feel ill, have headaches, feel agitated. Don't let anyone tell you it is dosage related or, that all estrogens are the same. I have heard from others with the same issues.

My pharmacy told me Watson does not make Estradiol 2mg anymore. Is that true?
The new brand name does not work for me. I get hot flashes especially at nite.

You will need someone with pharmacology training to look up the chemical structure of Watson brand estradiol. It is different than the TEVA substitute or any other estrogen you can find. You are not alone in feeling nervous, hot flashes, moody. I have talked to several women in line at the pharmacy who complained when Watson brand was no longer available; their physicians and pharmacists are telling them the estradiol is all the same, but no one is listening to the patients.

So glad to see this post to know I'm not alone. Loss of bladder control, sleep issues, itchy skin.....all since my pharmacy switched from Watson. Is there anything we can do? How can we get the Watson makeup of estradiol?

Found Watson brand Estradiol.

It is still being sold and manufactured. You can find it on sale from veterinarian supply houses for horses and other animals----And it is advertised "For Human Use" but they will not sell it to you. I can't tell you how to get it, so if you find a way let me know...

I am having the same issue. I've been taking 2mg Watson brand estradiol for several years, and a couple times a year my pharmacy would substitute the Mylan brand tablets when I went for a refill. They definitely make me feel worse, so I had them special-order the Watson for me each month. Now they say they're discontinued and I'm stuck with Mylan, which aren't working for me and I can definitely feel the difference after just a few days. They also don't dissolve as easily, and they contain SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) which causes irritation in my mouth (I take them sublingually). I miss my Watson tablets, what's my alternative?

The comments about Watson estradiol are very true. I've been taking 2mg Watson brand name since my hysterectomy in 2002 and now the Teva pills might as well be placebo. Where did Watson go? Is there a good alternative? I realize that pharmacies go with the cheaper, poor quality Teva, but when it's depleting overall health and quality of life, causing sickness, I don't care what it costs! Has anybody had luck with Estrace brand pills? The patches and creams don't work. I just need my Watson back!

My pharmacist ordered the Teva ones, so I've been using them for the past couple weeks. It feels like I'm not taking anything at all. I don't have the irritation I got from the Mylan, but I definitely don't feel like I did with the Watson, so I agree with Mary that the Teva is almost like a placebo, as is the Mylan. I miss my Watson tablets...

I tried to get Estrace from my pharmacy, but it was going to be $183 per month with my insurance, which is ridiculous.

I am so glad to find this site. Same thing everyone else is saying. I have been on watson 2mg. estradiol for 14 years after a total hysterectomy. I have been doing great for all this time until I was told they no longer exist. I was given Teva and Mylan and told they are all the same. NOT!!! I have suffered headaches, sleeplessness, nausea, bad rashes, etc., etc.. Thank you for making me realize I am not CRAZY.

I, too, am comforted to discover that I am not the only one completely unhappy with every other alternative to the Watson estradiol! My pharmacist was able to special order it in for me until recently. It has worked wonderfully for me for years! I am now back to hot flashes and sleepless nights (currently is 4:16 am), and as a result, I am suffering fatigue and irritability. Has anyone contacted Watson to confirm that it has been discontinued? Maybe it is still available through some foreign supplier?

Re: Linda (# 12) Expand Referenced Message

I have had the same issue. Since my pharmacy said they could not order the watson, I checked with all my other local pharmacys and they also said it was no longer available thru watson. I feel like the substitutes are like a sugar pill.....does absolutely nothing for me.

Same here...feels like I am taking nothing. The price is there but the active ingredients are not.

I have taken the 1mg for over 20 yrs. with zero side effects. Now my pharmacy had substituted Mylan and the headaches are severe. If I don’t take the substitute the hot flashes and the lack of sleep is horrible. I have called the manufacturer which is Teva. According to what I have been told Watson sold to them and after the mysterious recall, they are not making them anymore. I have compared the inactive ingredients to others on the market and nothing compares. The Watson hormone had the fewest ingredients. I am miserable :(
