Do you have to get epidural shots in order to get pain medication from pain management?

It depends on what that doctor(s) requires. Many want you to try all other options first, before resorting to prescribing potentially addictive medications. However, if you don't want the shots, you are free to discontinue your treatment there and see a different doctor.

The FDA lists epidural side effects as possibly including discomfort, irritation, low blood pressure and dizziness.

Some pain management drs require it in order to get pain meds and some don't. Some pain managements dr won't prescribe pain meds and only do injections. It is up to each dr how they want to treat their patients.
