Hello, David! How are you?
Yes, that is normal and can be very annoying. Other side effects may possibly include feeling of fullness in the ear, drainage, itching and ringing in the ear.
It should go away, in a few days, as the infection starts to clear up, if not, then you should inform your doctor.
Is there anything else I can help with?
In the future, such infections can be prevented by using ear plugs to prevent water from getting in the ear, when showering, bathing or swimming.
