You should only dose a child according to the doctor's dosing instructions. At such a young age, it is far too easy to put them in danger by dosing them improperly.
Usually, the dose would be 8mgs per kilogram orally once a day, or 4mgs per kilogram orally twice a day in separate doses.
The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
