Have the doctors been able to determine what caused the gastroparesis to begin with? I've read that one risk factor is from having diabetes, and wonder if at any point you were diagnosed with that as well?
In either case, perhaps the idea of supplementing daily with digestive enzymes/probiotics and eating more fresh raw fruits/vegetables could improve your intestinal motility enough to metabolize food more efficiently (i.e. less work for your stomach muscles). - And in that respect, a strict regimen involving this may also help counter any constipation brought on as a side effect from pain meds.
Maybe you could explain this to your doctor and see what his/her opinion is?
