Unfortunately, due to the new restrictions set forth by the DEA last year, the days of doctors prescribing anything so liberally are over. Severe restrictions have been placed on how much they can prescribe, what they can prescribe and why they can prescribe it.
The FDA lists Tramadol as being as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
If you require such a medication on a long-term ongoing basis, you'll need to see a pain management specialist, a general practice physician won't be able to prescribe it for you and most of them aren't going to want to prescribe for an uninsured person, since that makes it easier for someone to doctor or pharmacy hop. When doctors do prescribe for the uninsured, many pharmacies won't fill such prescription for the same reason.
Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area that might be able to help?
Looking for a pain management doctor around the Wooster Ohio area. I've been to Dr.Shin and Dr.Basili. I have severe degenerative disc disease and other back problems that cause pain all day when I'm not in bed. It's gotten so bad that most days I don't even want to live anymore! I've had spinal epidurals (3x), lots of physical therapy, many chiropractic visits, and 1 1\2 years of pain management, but the doctors don't want to prescribe any narcotics, they both said I was to young and if I started to take them now, they wouldn't work later in life. They have prescribed every muscle relaxer and antiflammatory imaginable! They don't do anything for the pain. About 8 years ago I told my family doctor about a drug problem (opiates) I was having at the time and he put the label (history of drug abuse) in my file. So when I go to a doctor they always see that in there and I think it's why I haven't been put on any narcotics from them. The one doctor would give me 30 5 mg percocets every 3 months for use if I wanted\needed to go do something (shopping, travel, play with my children, ect). When I took them in was the only time I ever felt like life would be OK, I was still in pain, but it was manageable for 4 hrs and I would be able to stay on my feet for several hours at a time. I never thought the doctors believed me about how much pain I was in because if they knew how bad it hurt they would of had me on narcotics right away!!! For the last 2 years I was always telling myself that the doctors are eventually going to be able to fix my back and the pain was just temporary, that ending my life was stupid because I will eventually get it under control. I just got a new x Ray and MRI and the specialist basically told me the same stuff I already knew and it was heart breaking. I was praying he would find something, even if it was really bad, wrong. I wanted something to be new wrong and have the doctor tell me surgery could fix it, but the doctor said there was nothing they could do to fix it. He just referred me to another pain management doctor in Cleveland Ohio. (Dr.Chan I believe) I have tried everything else possible to help the pain and now I'm at the point that I just want pain medication because I'm sick and tired of being in excruciating pain everyday! I understand the situation doctors are in theses days with prescribing pain meds(especially someone with a history of drug abuse), but I don't think the doctors understand my pain situation. If I don't get help soon I fear the worse for myself. I can't go on like this. I can't have fun, do things I need to,work, ect. I'm filing for disability because I'm currently living off my parents which is so embarrassing being a 29 year old man. I cannot work and I feel completely helpless and can't seem to find a doctor that will help me live a life worth living. I need to find a good pain management doctor that will actually treat me like a human and help me. I'm open to any ideas that are non narcotics, but at this time I feel as though I've tried absolutely everything else and none of it worked! Anyone know of a doctor who could help me. I live in Wooster Ohio. Thank you and God Bless you...
