Doctor In Richmond Va Who Will Prescribe Opiates For Severe Chronic Pain (Page 4)

Updated

I have moderate to severe Degenerative Disc Disease of Cervical Spine with severe narrowing (stenosis) along with bulging and herniated discs with severe arthritis (osteo) also in cervical spine with boney spurs. I also have Fibromyalgia, Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome ad Chronic Fatigue. My pain management doc has done many different procedures, non giving much relief and no long term relief. She has told me there is nothing more she can do. So, I need a Primary Care Doctor who will take over writing my Morphine and Muscle Relaxer. My current Primary Care doctor said she trusted me totally but could not write RX for opiates. I need help. I will not be able to function without some pain meds. I live in Gen Allen, a Richmond, VA suburb. Please helpp. Thank you.

Agree, BlueBell. I'm almost out of ideas. Funguy.. You sounded hopeful, like you thought you could provide some helpful information. Do you have any suggestions..?

I need names of docs or facilities so I can convince doctors to prescribe this amazing pain medication...starts giving you relief in 5 minutes and is out if your system in 2 hours...its mainly for unpredictable breakthrough pain that lasts 30-60 minutes

FunGuy....What's the name of this medication? If you don't mind sharing, that is :-) I am on an Extended Release medication as well as an Instant Release, however, sometimes my breakthrough pain can be quite unpredictable.

Kat and Bluebell.... Dr bonner does prescribe narcotic pain medications now. He is a stickler though for not giving too many but I have seen him now for the last 2 months and he has a funny personality and its definitely a trust thing with him... meaning he is NOT going to give you what you HAVE been given in the past (quantity) but ensures you if what he does prescribe doesn't work well enough then he will do some other things next visit. He did have to add an extended release medication for me the last time I went in. He asks a ton of questions to weed out the drug seekers so it is a good thing for us.... the true severe chronic pain sufferers. I must say though that it is a busy office so it takes a couple of weeks to get your first appt and if you have insurance that he doesn't accept then your first visit is a little over $300.00 and then each follow up refill appt is $113.00 .... the down side to this particular saving grace. I sure hope this helps.

Hi BlueBell.. Yes definitely, but have to get back in here in a little while.. Bad day with pain. But yes moderators thank you and I do want to share information.

Hi Chris.. So surprising about Bonner.. I saw him about nine years ago, and I actually liked him but he was dead set against opiates. I actually heard him on the phone with another doctor I believe. He actually said something about the j'junkies' (if memory serves me correctly) that they had there. Do you mind sharing just a bit about your problem.. Trying to figure out if it's worth trying him again.. Thanks so much for sharing and helping.

Dear Kat-
I am so sorry to hear that you're having a bad pain day and I really hope that it doesn't stay that way for too long :-( I just clicked the link provided to us by the Administrators and sent them "My side of the permission" LOL now I think you have to do the same (judging by what the MedsChat Admin said in his comment to us.) I am hoping that they will be able to get us in touch with one another very soon as I have some "great news/information" to share with you! (At least I hope it will be Great for you) :-) Hope to talk to you soon and that you're already starting to feel better my friend!

Absolutely, I dont mind sharing at all...... I injured my back in 1998 and was with a PM Dr from 1998 until Dec 2014 after 2 failed back surgeries for a severe spinal cord decompression and spinal fusion from l3 -s1. My PM dr had to have surgery himself so it sent approx. 2000 patients out into the wind looking for a new PM dr to take over where he left off. I WAS on methadone 10 mg 6x a day and oxycodone 10mg/325 mg 4 x a day and I was SOOOO able to do life with the least amount of pain possible. Well, it took me a while to find a dr at all that was willing to give me the oxycodone alone. They all thought the methadone was for me to come off my "addiction" to the oxycodone. I explained it was actually being used as a great pain reliever that was a lot less expensive than the original oxycontin that my original dr wanted me to take with the oxycodone. Anyway, I had the WORST WITHDRAWLS OF MY LIFE WITH THAT METHADONE! I never want to see one again just in case this dr nightmare is to occur again when Dr bonner decides to retire or move or whatever...... so I go in for my first appt with dr bonner in April, he looked thru my chart from Advanced Ortho. and asked me what I was taking right then, I said nothing ... i had finish the "so called" 3 week taper off the methadone.... oh my gosh!!!!!!! So horrible, I thought I was going to die!!!!!!! and I had literally JUST FINISHED the taper off of the oxycodone the day before my appt with Dr Bonner and so he said ...... (and heres where I can see where he could have said something like what you heard him say about junkies and such...) he says great! Now that you are off the "dope" you wanna go back on it or would you be interested in the suboxone? I admit I was shocked that he put it that way.... but I said no sir I am in true severe chronic pain. I cant walk without a walker or crutches since ive come off the pain meds and I have no quality of life, my kids are watching their mom suffer daily and thats not fair to them and I am a human being and Iits not right to leave someone in such agony that they think about not wanting to live if living meant you have this kind of pain. My children are the ONLY REASON I didnt do something crazy like that. I said I would like to go back on the oxycodone 10mg and the oxycontin 3 x a day (I now have ins.that would pay for it now) but he was unwilling to do both at those doses he offered 2 oxycodone 10/325 and 2 oxycontin 15mg perday so I said can we do 4 oxycodone and 2 oxycontin and he said no lets try this out first and if it doesnt work out we will do something different next visit. Ultimately I chose the 4 oxycodone 10mg/325 and passed on the oxycontin. Well as happy as I was to have a dr at least give me the 4 oxycodone 10/325 per day inevitably I was still not as comfortable as I used to be. So in my appt 2 weeks ago he did as he promised and added the extended release medication. He is a straight shooter and asks a TON OF QUESTIONS to weed out the drug seekers. I think thats why he seems at times a bit arrogant or judgemental, but I have nothing to hide and I never failed a drug screen from my former drs office in over 17 years. I am happy so far with my care there, and his waiting area is small so you are sitting closely with other patients and they are very nice and I havent heard any negative chats about him or the office. I hope this helps out.

Sorry to hear of your distress. I live with pain also. I go to Erika Young at Hugenot primary care. She is both a primary dr. as well as a pain mgmt doc. That is great for me, since I would have to pay $45 to see a specialist. I don't have a co-pay for a primary Dr visit. Dr. Young is very good & takes the time to listen to what to have to say. You can mention me when you call. Just say Lewis or "Gene"

Just as an FYI, I called to try and make an appointment with Dr. Erika Young due to the fact that apparently there don't seem to be any PAIN SPECIALIST doctors in the Richmond area that actually believe in prescribing pain meds anymore...and due to her name being mentioned on the internet (not sure if it this posting or not) she is no longer taking any patients. Just wanted to post an update to that effect.

Hi Johnny, I sent you a message before, but don't know if you responded? I live in Spotsylvania too, have you had any luck finding a Dr? It sucks that you can't directly speak to another person. I wish they would let us people who are in pain be able to e-mail people directly. Thanks to all the people who ruined it for the people who have MRI, and need meds can't get it.

My Dr retired last Dec. I was in Fl for the winter and now that I am back in Richmond area .....having a problem finding avDoc to prescribe meds.... I have severe arthritis ...all joimts and neck/back plus 2 joints replaced . Apparently my Doctors retirement flooded the available opening with other pain docs. Any referral isvappreciated.
