Is there a dilaudid shot that i can get from my drs office? We have tried all painkillers for the chronic pancreatitis i have. I go to the er about every week. If i could get a shot at the dr's office it would eliminate going to the er. 1 mg of dilaudid iv seems to be the only thing that works. I took 4 mg of dilaudid tablets for a long time. Now i have to go to the er.

Carol,

I have found cases in which people were prescribed an oral version of hydromorphone (dilaudid), so at least there is the possibility of you being able to get a prescription for it. You would need to set up an appointment with your primary care physician and see if they agree that this is the best route for you after reviewing your medical history.

I would like to add that hydromorphone contains an opioid and exposes you to addiction, misuse, and abuse. As such doctors are reluctant to prescribe this medication so be prepared to meet some resistance when you discuss this option.

The National Institute of Health lists these as potential adverse effects of this drug.
- tachycardia
- bradycardia
- palpitations
- vision blurred
- diplopia
- miosis
- visual impairment
- constipation
- ileus
- diarrhea
- abdominal pain
- weakness
- feeling abnormal
- chills
- biliary colic
- decreased appetite
- muscle rigidity
- headache
- tremor
- paraesthesia
- nystagmus
- increased intracranial pressure
- syncope
- taste alteration
- involuntary muscle contractions
- presyncope
- agitation
- mood altered
- nervousness
- anxiety
- depression
- hallucination
- disorientation
- insomnia
- abnormal dreams
- urinary retention
- urinary hesitation
- antidiuretic effects
- bronchospasm
- laryngospasm
- urticaria
- rash
- hyperhidrosis
- flushing
- hypotension
- hypertension

I hope this information helps.
