Contrave And Cymbalta (Top voted first)

On day two of Contrave but also on 30mg of cymbalta. My doctor didn't seem to have any worries on both together. Has anyone been on both. I actually skipped my cymbalta for last nights dose because I want off of cymbalta. I have been on 30mg since last November. Any personal experiences??

Hello, Erica! How are you?

They can increase the toxicity of each other, as well as increasing the risk of seizures, when they are combined, according to the FDA.

Thus, they should not normally be prescribed together and it is advised that this only be done as a last resort, when someone is out of other options.

Just a note that each person is different when going off of cymbalta. I had very little trouble other than 'brain quakes' as I call them. But for sure check with your doctor before discontinuing any medication or combining meds.

I didn't know not taking it would make u sick but I didn't take it for a week and I had alllll the horrible side effects of just quoting I started taking it again today! Nausea, insomnia, fatigue, nightmares, headache then I looked up the side effects of not taking it and what do ya know ! I wanna get on contrave as well! Asking my dr on Friday about it

My dr actually prescribed both Welbutrin and Cymbalta together and they have been working fine

My drs off won't prescribe contrave for me while I'm on cymbalta 60mg twice a day. I'm disappointed. I'm going to Google what may happen.

Adipex will not work for me this time. I took it several years ago and lost 34 pounds. Now all these med changes have helped me gain that and way more. I left msg with doc to try Contrave but see online now he may not since I"m on 30mg Cymbalta in a.m. and 60 at night. my friend has some Contrave she will give me and I'll stop taking the 60mg cymbalta to try it but I'm afraid it'll mess me up. anyone else had luck taking it with cymbalta and not having problems? I tried to get off cymbalta before and it made my violently ill

I am wondering the same thing. I am also on cymbalta fornthe past month and a half and now i started contrave a week ago. Everything i read says no dont take together and my dr said it was absolutely fine. I want to make sure i am getting what i need from both meds. But Like erica will get off the cymbalta for the contrave.

yes because it is a brain stimulate, but he contrave has a stimulate as well but works from a different receptor in the brain that will help with some of effects of coming off the cymbalta

Yes I did take the two meds.2years on cymbolta and 6weeks on contrave. Go into the doctor office every month to get vitals. Was given a 3month supply of contrave. Pride to tell everyone reading this that I am down 15 lbs and not stopping.Have notttt had any problems so far.was taking off my diabetes meds.And cut down on my hi blood preassure meds.Every one is different.All I can truly say.PLEASE FOLLOW DOCTORS ORDERS. And pray on it ?Big Baby but soon and very soon a name Chang to LITTLE BABY.

I have been on cymbalta for 7 years 30mg a day. My dr prescribed contrave and said they would be fine together. Reason I'm on contrave is because I have gained so much weight over the past few years. Trying to lose some of this extra weight. Always listen to your doctor. They know best.

Isn't weight gain a side effect of cymbalta. Really need to loose some weight. Have been on cymbalta for a year and have gained 10 plus

You had better not just stop cymbalta. You will feel horrible. It messed with my vision and I was very woozy. It has to be stopped very gradually. Consult your doctor or pharmacist
