Coming Off Fentanyl Patch
UpdatedI recently went through bilateral mastectomy due to breast cancer. Chemo & herceptin treatments all done, but because of continual pain I was on percocet for a year, and then switched to 12mcg fentanyl patch, and recently up to a 25mcg patch. I do not want to keep taking these pain meds. So....I stopped cold turkey the patch and I am not able to sleep at night, restless body syndrome, hot & cold spells & extreme anxiety. What can I do to help with these symptoms & how long before it will take me to get through this withdrawal time? Do I need to call my doctor?

Hello, Linda! How are you doing? I am very sorry that you had cancer.
Fentanyl is a very potent narcotic, it is 81 times stronger than Morphine and you went cold turkey off of it, so the symptoms you've been experiencing are normal.
Have you consulted your doctor, yet?
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Dear Linda, sorry 2 hear about your. Situation. What u r going through is probably withdrawals from the pain medication. I've had the same withdrawals and it's no joke. I would definitely call the Dr. It's VERY hard 2 go cold turkey. U should have weaned down. Good luck!
