I had angioplasty in 2011 (I never had a heart attack and I wanted to check my heart condition as my father died of Heart attack) as I underwent TMT there was some problem Doctor told me to take angiogram and he told me there is blocks and it is better to do Angioplasty as at anytime I can have a heart attack. There was blocks 100% in one and 75% in another and 45% in the third. He put stents in the first two and left other as it can be cured through medication. Now I am taking Atocor-20mg,Clopilet 75mg, Repace 25mg and Seloken XL 25mg and Ecosprin 150mg. I would like to know the purpose of taking these medicine and whether I can quit this medicine and can take diet control and exerise only. As these medication has wide side effect I need your advice.

My dad was given one clopilet 75mg tablet daily...but he took it two times daily for the last two months. Is there any risk of side effects due to this misunderstanding? Should we consult his doctor?
i have irregular heart beat, Irethymia for more than 17 years. I had little fluttering/palpitation 3 years back after 2 Echos & Holter, I was advised Selokin 25MG and Ecosporin 75AV. About 3 years requested one very senior Cardiologist of Safdarjung Hospital to rpt these tests. He also added Thyroid Function Test. Holter testing Hospital Doc said that I have episods of pauses and I should have a pacemaker. I showed the same results to Senior Doc & he advised the same. He was not vwery attentive though. I sought another opinion from a senior Cardio Prof in AIIMS 3 days back. He saw old Holter tests (Feb 2012) and the new ones. He categorically told me that I don't need any pacemaker as there are no attending symetoms. I am always very energetic, walk 3.2KMs in less than 31 minutes, while humming/singing & without any brethlessness. I get good sleep & a very busy househusband looking after an ailing wife and a specially abled daughter 35+. I am die hard optimist by nature & I am mostle a very bhappy soul. I love travelling etc. I am 73+. Surprisingly doc told me not to have Seloken ANYMORE. He said irregular heart beat (episodes only around 1AM at night) is possibly due to Seloken. Any advice Sir.
Dear Dr,
I would like know more about your EECP clinic in Kochi.
Hi Mr. Surender, Since you had undergone angioplasty and stenting you need to take these medicines and should not be stopped or changed without consulting your doctor. They are given to improve the functioning of heart, control heart rate, reduce clotting in coronary arteries, reduce cholesterol levels etc. to avoid further worsening and avoid heart attack. All drugs will have some side effects, but then we have to choose between two 'bads' and in this case taking medicines is better choice. You can undergo EECP therapy which is a totally non-invasive therapy without cutting, stitching, inj's. or added medications, and approved by US FDA which will make 'natural bypasses' around blocked arteries. It will advisable more for you since one artery with 45% block was left untouched at the time of your angioplasty (which was the right thing to do then) and we don't know what is the present situation in that. You can find out any centre doing that near your place. I am running a dedicated centre for EECP therapy in Cochin, Kerala based out of India. All the best.
Hello, Surender! How are you doing? Sorry to hear about the cardiac problems that you had.
And in regards to that, those were some very serious blockages that could have endangered your life. Thus yes, it is important to take the medications as directed by your doctor, for your own health and safety.
There can be risks associated with taking any medication, but the risk if far greater for you if you don't take them and let more blockages build up.
Is there anything else I can help with?
