Class Action Against Purdue/hmo's/dea Reformulated Oxycontin (Page 2)

'K. I'll try 2nd report about my personal experience and need for any help to find a Class Action Sit against Purdue and all invoved in the mistreatment of Chronic Pain Patients who have been prescribed the reformulated oxicontin OP. Some of my history of treatment for my Chronic Pain. I have suferred since 1980's : was prescribed Vicodin until I could no longer tolerate tylenol and was referred to the "Pain aClinic in my HMO. I was prescribed 80mg of Oxycontin and 5mg Oxycodone for break through pain. The intake Physician said that if I needed more to contact him. I was told at the time that Oxycontin/codone was entirely safe for the treatment of pain without the damagiing effects to the body. I was given injections to try to releive the pain but eventually I was told to see the Prescribing Physician for the Pain Medicine, When I visited that Dr. I told him that I would like to try a different med. and he worked out a titration schedule for going on Methodone. The Methodone did not work and made me ill; nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and more.I asked the Dr. to retitrate me back to Oxycontin. I was returned to Oxycontin at 40mg tabs every 8 hrs, which was far lower than the original dose. When I attended my next DR appointment, he asked" how I was doing on the REFORMULATED OXYCONTIN." I responded "IS THAT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT??" IT DOSEN'T WORK" I reported the same side effects I had with Methodone; and that it did not treat my pain. The Dr has tried to push other things i.e., Fentenyl path and Lyrica. I have children whose experience with the Fentynol Patch was nery negetive and I refused this option. During my titration changes I received call from the Pain Dept.. Staff questioning everything possible about my medicine administration; "what was the dosage schedule for that weekD? What else was I doing to relieve the pain? On the 1-10 Pain Scale; the worst least and average. "whether I was constipated etc. The elapse time perion for all of this started early 2010 and continues. The Dr. refuses to treat my pain and continually reduces the strength and amount of this useless oxycontin-OP, which I refer to as Oxy-Placebo. There are RX Meds that I have requested in the past and was denied with the explanation of dangerous side effects, but now that I am continually ill, the Dr. has prescribed to me. This is a direct contradiction to his previous statements. The last conversation with this DR went nowhere and he has ordered a referral to see another DR fore a consult. I told him that I have little faith in a DR within the same HMO and beleive the physician are being given their "marching orders" by upper athorities. After enduring all of the pain and misinformation haded out by my HMO and no help in sight, I am hoping that this site will advise me of any
class Action suit to compensate honest people who trusted their Dr's for legitimate pain treatment. The unreformulated Oxycontin worked for me. I was able to conduct daily work. Now I am in constant pain, and side effects of "meds". I have been treated as an addict and humiliated by Dr's in other Dept's. as well as negative remarks by Pharmasists. I have worked hard all my life and approach 70 yrs. in age. I am ready to take action against Perdue, Kaiser permanente. and the DEA. This is a "Battle Cry" from someone who is a good fighter for a rightous cause. PLEASE ADVISE!!

Class Action I would join because at the time none of the Dr.s or Pharmacist even in PM had no clue. For me my pain dictates how much sleep I get if any. I had many issues that Purdue couldn't answer, to include clinical trials? I did my own study as I had received my last few orders with half new half old. My migraines when on a good regime with meds is fine, when on OP I went through a rebound migraine for sure because I did this twice. Took normal dose Old meds and Blood Pressure ok and sleep ok, Pain ok. OP my Blood pressure went up and my sleep down and pain level was up. Then back to original and again all good. Need email to get in touch. Thx.

i forgot to add that the reformulation did degrade the efficacy of the drug and most pain patients confer. so i don't want a law suit but i do want my doctors to stop screwing with me. why should i pay because doctors (yes i blame them) handed a serious pain medication out like candy to people who were having a tooth pulled. i went to japan in 2002. i need a form with authorization from the american embassy to bring the drug into japan, and they counted my pills going in and going out. that's the way you handle a drug like oxycontin. so i/we pay again because our health system SUCKS. and we pay and we pay... ~laura

i'm not looking for a class action myself... i just want my old dose back which i titrated from myself and have been at 1/2 the level for five months and in excrutiating pain. 30 mg X 3/day... for a decade. took myself down from 50mg X 3/day because it was too much drug... please don't assume we are all addicts. 200mg, sure. glad your pain is better. xoxoxo

Only addicts would want to have a class action done against PURDUE for the new oxy. It is the same as the old, except it can't be abused, like the old oxy. e.g: shot, shorted, crushed.

Basically, OP your problem is that your doctor has reduced your medication intake and that's why you are feeling the pain, not because the OXY OP isn't working. So, get your doc to prescribe you, your orginal dose and it should be back like it used too.

Sorry, but I too suffer from chronic pain and took oxycodone for 4 years at 200mg a day. Always taken as prescribed, orally and I became addicted and had to go through a suboxone detox. I believe that you probably have the same problem and are addicted and need help. Perhaps, you should clean your body of all those chemicals and start from scratch. I have notice that since I have stopped taken Oxy, my pain has lowered, weird how your brain works when it's under chemicals....
Look it up!

Good luck!

i am interested in talking to you. i am a kaiser patient, 54 yrs old with severe fibromyalgia pain and me/cfs which also causes burning pain.

for a decade i have been on 30mg X 3/day oxycontin and two 10mg breakthrough for the worst days. at the beginning of 2011, following pressure from my family, and not knowing that one of the reasons oxycontin wasn't working the same way due to the reformulation, i decided to try a titration down with the help of pharmacist. once i hit 20mg x 3/day, i hit a pain wall. it's been getting worse ever since.

when i decided to titrate, my pain specialist and gp both said that if it failed, "you'll just go back on the oxycontin. now they refuse to give me back my former dosage and are forcing me to rotate to any other opioid, methadone, morphine er, fentynal or opana. i am in so much pain that i have told them i will try methadone (which i did try in the past, also morphine but both were way too sedating and nauseating). i had an appt with the pain mgmt dept head, a chart review, and two appts with a second doctor. no one will prescribe oxycontin. i wrote a four-page letter, the doctor said he couldn't argue with anything in it. except no, he can't prescribe oxycontin. i found out kaiser is studying it with funding from perdue until april 2014. why can't they leave me alone. i've been on the same dose for a decade and was satisfied with my pain mgmt, although i did notice a big degradation after the reformulation, although no one told me about it. what to do, what to do?! i'm supposed to start the rotation on nov 19th. once i'm off the 20mg x 3, they will never give it back, even if everything else fails.

i'm desperate. i know oxycontin is the best drug for me as it doesn't knock me out, even with the reformulation. for kaiser, it's an across the board policy not to prescribe oxycontin anymore. there is no individual consideration.

But the Dr.s don't care nor have the time to call Purdue. Again the patient with Kaiser I would like to get in touch with you Re: Kaiser and Pain program and Op oxycontin.
Thank You

It is my belief that until all of the PHYSICIANS start complaining to the FDA and Purdue, nothing will happen. Doctors are already too busy to fight against a huge, drug company, but they need to be the voice for their patients.

Instead, they (Physicians) are taking the easy way out, by increasing the dosage, to match the relief of the original formulation, or changing their patients to Opana. This is so much easier for busy Doctors and they really don't want to get on the phone with the FDA and Purdue.

Some Pain Management Physician SHOULD do their own study, to prove that the new formulation does NOT have the equivalent bio-availability as the new Oxycontin Formulation.

BEG YOUR DOCTORS TO CALL THE FDA AND PURDUE PHARMACEUTICALS! Until enough health care professionals complain and PROVE that this new formulation is not as effective, things will not change.

wtarin1, no worries on the username, I am used to people getting it wrong, they do it with my first name as well, which is Verleen. I get every variation you can think of and it doesn't phase me. LOL

As to your question, yes, it is legal for them to drop someone as a patient or refuse to continue to prescribe, as long as at the time they do so, your life isn't in danger. The reason they can is because even if you do go into withdrawal later, there are emergency services available to help you. If you go into an emergency room and are in danger, the doctor's there HAVE to treat you, under the law, regardless of what put you in danger.

However, if you browse our site and others, you will see posts from many people whose doctors have dropped them or stopped prescribing controlled substances and they have no recourse.

If you're bleeding to death, the doctor has to help, however, that is where their obligation actually ends in the U.S. It is sad, but true.

As to pain management, no, you also have the right to refuse any type of treatment, however, that still doesn't mean they have to offer you anything else. If they want to give you Vicodin and you refuse it, because you feel Oxycodone works better, it doesn't mean they have to give it to you.

You do, however, always have the option of walking out of their office and finding a different doctor or pain management specialist to try again.

These are all the same reasons why a doctor does not have to see someone whose insurance they don't accept or who is uninsured and can't pay. It's why a pharmacy doesn't have to hand you a prescription for a medication, even if it is life sustaining, if you can't pay for it or have no insurance to cover it.

I had severely high blood pressure, but couldn't afford to see a doc and, except for when I was in the hospital in danger, there was no way to make one agree to see me, without coverage or the cash to pay for it. I could not afford the medications the doctor prescribed, they amounted to more than I earned in a month and there was no way to obligate any pharmacy to give them to me, regardless of the dangers I was in. I finally went into congestive heart failure, however, I have no recourse against anyone, even though I could have died.

I am sorry if this information upsets and disturbs you, but this is just how it works.

If you have any more questions or anyone else does, feel free to post them and I'll get back to you!
