Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, so it will not prevent opiate withdrawals. It may help with some of the pain you may experience as a rebound effect, but it won't do much more than that.

Its side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach irritation and increased risk of bleeding.
