Can Ciprofloxacin Be Used To Treat Tooth Infections

Updated

I was prescribed ciprofloxacin for five days by my dentist and on the forth day I suddenly developed severe lower back pain, and generalized aches and pain which have lasted for past month and only gradually beginning to subside. I only suspected the ciproxin when a friend was taking it for chest infection and developed pain in Achilles tendon and is finding it difficult to walk.

Hi, Nancy! How are feeling?

It is a known side effect that some antibiotics can cause tendonitis in some people that take them and achilles tendonitis is the most frequent one known to occur.

As to the symptoms you experienced, those aren't normal, especially lasting that long after you finished your course of treatment with it.

Learn more Ciprofloxacin details here.

However, going by many of the posts on here, something odd seems to be occurring more and more often with antibiotics. Many people have been complaining about experiencing odd side effects from them. I'm not sure if it's possibly related to overuse, or not.

However, the best thing to do would be to inform your doctor, so they can look into the matter and make sure that the symptoms weren't caused by something else.

Are there any other questions or concerns?

I can personally tell you that Cipro is pure poison to your body! I cannot describe what I and thousands of others are going through because of the damaging effects of Cipro on your cartilage, tendons, muscles, and basically every organ in your body including the brain! I had 2 surgeries this year and with both surgeries I was placed on 500 Mg of Cipro twice a day for close to 12 weeks in all~!!! I felt wonderful for the first 3 -4 days and then began to feel really ill. I thought it was because of my prostate ( hence the infections and surgeries) and never thought it was the Cipro. Well come to find out. it basically melts human cartilage , bone and muscle away! There are literally thousands of cases against Bayer right now concerning Cipro. so I have recently researched~! Here is the best link if you want to know the truth about Cipro and I sure hope this helps and I hope you weren't floxxed (poisoned) that badly. * Blessings you way!

Over the past 3-4 weeks iv'e had a horrible tooth ache. Well the pain from the tooth is all but gone but a day or so ago i noticed that i had a knot right by my lower jaw bone directly under my bad tooth. Its not sore to the touch but over the past 2-3 days its gotten huge and still doesn't hurt. If i take some ciprofloxacin hcl 500mg's will it help the swelling go away? Please hurry....this thing feels like its getting bigger by the second

Well, to answer to your question. The Ciprofloxacin might help you with the infection. However, it sounds like you have a possible access in your tooth. If you are willing to loose your tooth, then take the pill and wait for the tooth to come out. Or just pull it out. No kidding!. If you are more concern about your smile in the future. Let me tell you my case as of 8/2014. Same problem as you described, the insurance cover the extraction. However in my case I don't want to look like a toothless person. The implant and crown is about $5400 here in Florida. Therefore, I took the time to look somewhere else, like CostaRica or Colombia. They have better quality and lower prices. So, my treatment in Colombia for the Implant and Crown is only $1900, and If I add the Hotel and Beach, Air Ticket for 2 weeks is only $3200. In order words VACATIONS and NEW TOOTH for less.

Regarding Cipro...Whenever I have been Rx'd Cipro I have always become extremely fatigued, nauseated, and just generally achey. I thought it was just how it was 'supposed' to be. So I am very scared that I have been damaged by being RX'd this med quite a few times, as in more then 10. What should I do? I feel as though my health has just been going downhill....

Don't take another flouriquolone, ever again. Give it time & don't push yourself too hard. Most of us recover from these adverse effects with time

I agree with Fiddlah. Cipro is risking your life. They regularly prescribe it for Urinary Tract infections that so many women are subject to. AND some are on antibiotics for years w/o clearing it successfully.

About 2 months ago I had some blood (a little) in my urine. The doctor wanted to prescribe a fluroquinolone antibiotic. I asked him for something different. He did order a different drug. Be sure you are taking a probiotic any time you take almost any prescription drug. They tend to kill off gut bacteria and damage the stomach.

Make sure u drink plenty or more and take with food if at all possible. also do not take antacids iron or vitamin mineral supplements within six hours before or two hours after taking this medicine. Also try taking a probiotic as these antibiotics rob your system of good bacteria in fighting the infection. VSL3 is a very good one kind of pricey but you can get it at Costco for cheaper. Also taking a anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen can definitely help with possible inflammation before it occurs! Hope this helps you

Well I haven't had any side effects and I am taking cipro for toothache. Suppose to take 2 a day but I'm taking three I figure most doctors play it safe besides there's stronger ones out there and it's still not working fast enough. I should've gotten some kind of strong antibiotic intravenous

After getting no relief from the antibiotic my dentist prescribed, my GP doctor gave me Penicillin VK. He said it was the best for abscesses, and he was right! Hope this helps. BTW, I think the "VK" part is important. There might be other types of Penicillin out there, but the VK is what you want.

VK just means "with potassium". I'm not really sure how the potassium helps with the penicillin, but that's what it is.
