Can adavan cause mental confusion? My daughter had surgery one week ago and in the hospital she was given adavan and has not been herself. sometimes she doesn't know where she is and it is terrifying me. I asked the doctor to stop giving her adavan and simply continue with her regular depression and anxiety drugs she takes a home. Will adavan cause mental confusion?? Thank you very much.

Hello, Charmy Lou! How are you?

Yes, Ativan is a benzodiazepine that's used to treat anxiety, nervousness, panic disorders and for its sedation effects. It could be the sole cause, or it could be the fact that it's being combined with other medications.

It also carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and mood swings.

What other medications is she taking?
