But Asa Caf Cod (Top voted first)

Hi~ For several years, I have been prescribed 4/day butal/ASA/caf/cod for h/a's, neck pain and flank pain...because of (dr believes) the aspirin, I've had tummy problems (hurts!), so he changed rx to butal/ACETAM/caf/cod...is one stronger than the other?
Is the acetam more "dangerous" to my liver than aspirin? Thank you so much!

Both Acetaminophen and Aspirin have risks/problems that they can cause.

As a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, Aspirin is much more rough on the stomach, so it's highly possible that it was causing some irritation or even an ulceration, that was causing the stomach pain. The double whammy from it is that it also has a blood thinning effect, so if you end up with a bleeding ulcer, there's a chance of hemorrhage.

Acetaminophen has the potential to cause liver damage or failure, but it mostly occurs with long-term use of high amounts.

However, if your doctor thinks it is better for you than the Aspirin, due to the stomach problem, you should follow their advice. But be sure to discuss your concerns with them and keep your regularly scheduled follow up appointments.

Thanks so much, Verwon...I guess my 'REAL" problem is that I'm of generation where one DOESN'T take pain medication...but I DO have pain...(fibromuscular dysplasia of renal arteries with aneurysms, two repaired) and brain aneurysm with headache...I think, with me, the fear of aneurysm (although they're being closely observed, and brain one, especially, is small 2 mm), every time I have pain, I also have fear of them rupturing (one renal aneurysm grew suddenly, hence one of the aneurysm surgeries)...tummy pain on aspirin, very real, not wanting to have my liver go, real...I shall follow both directions and blood work as req by Dr...thanks again, Verwon...Betty
