Hello Carol,
All regulated medicine is required by the FDA to be identifiable by its physical appearance (imprint, shape, size, color etc.) With that in mind is unlikely that what you have is a medication, which would leave the options of vitamin/supplement or illegal substance.
It is most likely a supplement or vitamin which makes identifying the pill very difficult due to the number of brands and types. You can take it down to a pharmacy and see if they will analyze the contents for you. You can also dispose of the pill at any of your local drug drop off points, commonly located at hospitals and pharmacies.
