Sorry to hear about your challenges with this medication. According to the MayoClinic, chest pain and shortness of breath are both listed as rare but serious side effects of Metronidazole, that should be reported to your doctor immediately. Loss of appetite is also another side effect listed on Medlineplus.
With that said, it seems like the best approach now would be to discuss these concerns with your doctor, if not but for your own safety.
