(Newest replies first)

Help! I have been free of lexapro for over a year. Benzodiazepine Cree for 9 months after a very slow taper. I still suffer from anxiety like I never had before, insomnia, chronic pain, irritability and brain fog. Please warn folks not to take these drugs. I want to die almost every day. I am unable to do much. I have been working very hard on this recovery. Thanks. M W.

That is a very good question, because it's likely that many that might be related to the medications or their withdrawal, are attributed to the person's mental state and anxiety.
Has the therapy been helping?
Thanks for your concern. I have had one year of therapy. There is currently no way for anyone to know how many are affected by severe symptoms. I wonder how many suicides. Since this is so hush hush and controversial.
I am very familiar with the details of benzodiazepine withdrawal, I've been working in this type of research and information for over 10 years. I am not affiliated with any drug manufacturer.
I just help people like you get the honest and correct information, if possible.
Not everyone has such severe issues with withdrawal from these medications, a lot of it depends on your own body, because we are all different.
I understand and respect that you don't want to take any more of them.
Have you tried just regular behavioral therapy?
I understand that this is not in your consciousness. However, withdrawal can last for two years. Google benzo withdrawal. The Ashton Report is there. The facts are real. When the denial is As strong as it is, it is even harder to recover. The drug companies have everyone convinced that they have the answers. They do not. I am doing many things to treat my anxiety. But I will never resort to toxic brain injuring drugs again.
No need to apologize, that's why this site is here. :-) Rant away!
To explain the issue, these medications affect receptors in your brain, such as those that produce serotonin and your body basically gets used to relying on them to help it work. Thus, it gets kind of lazy and stops doing as much on its own.
So, when you stop taking them, it takes awhile for your body to kick back into gear and start working on its own, again.
How are you feeling, today?
Thanks for your concern. I do indeed have anxiety. I have been struggling with this for over a year. It comes in waves of intensity that wax and wane . This is characteristic of and typical of benzodiazepine withdrawal. Right now, I am feeling much better. If I am able to suffer through this without taking another toxic drug, I will recover. I am grateful that I just slept for five hours straight. As far as I am concerned, I have an injured brain that will take a long time to heal. Those drugs have ruined my life and I will never return to them. You must please forgive the anger that I expressed here.
Hello, Madeline! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having.
However, neither of those medications is a cure, so it's highly possible that you still suffer from anxiety and it may have gotten worse with time. While withdrawal can cause some rebound effects, it wouldn't last for 9 months, especially after having done a very slow taper.
Have you tried anything else to treat the anxiety? SSRI medications like Prozac can often help and they are not addictive like benzodiazepines. Their typical side effects might include nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.
