Anxiety Worse On Pristiq

6 months ago my doctor switched me to Pristiq xr 100mg to replace Effexor xr 75mg. The med. always seems to stop working after abot 6 or7 months or so. I have not seen my doc in 6 months and i've noticed my anxiey is terrible. I don't trust co-workers and am paronoid that when I walk into work, they are thinking bad thoughts of me. This stops me from opening up/making friends. My co-workers eventually end up not liking me. I hope someone can relate with me. 5 years ago this was just depression, and the in the last 3 years whatever anxiety I may have had has slowly gotten worse. Is this typical of these medications? I've even considered divorcing just to start a new life/new chapter. I hope someone can help. thank you.

My wife of 13 years started acting irrational, had rashes, and acted paranoid. We were the perfect marriage and happy. She had anxiety though fro work and children activities. Eventually she had an affair with a married man and walked out on me and are 2 girls. Everyone was shocked because there was no indication of her being unhappy? Some people say it is a mid life crisis but I know her better than anyone. When leaving she said things like why you making this such a big deal and I am going to do what I want no matter who it hurts. This was the nicest person in the world before taken pristiq. She doesnt even care she lost her kids 50% of the time. She became very narcistic, and I could see in her eyes her pupils seemed dialated and she was not herself. 3 months into this she is weening off of pristiq. She seems upset and depressed not herself but more herself than she was, she is realizes the damage she has done. She did lots of irrational things including leaving that is not her normal personality. Very few people beleive me when I say it is the Pristiq but she had the same reaction to other anti depressants, just not as severe. Drugs react differently to different people I know I beleive she cannot take anti depressants because she acts irrational. Also she was drinking heavily with the pristiq, which I know is a No-No. I took them for about 3 months years ago and stopped because they killed my sex drive. I don't know how this turn out but hopefully the pristiq will go out of her system and she will not hurt herself no matter what happens with us. When she comes out of this her friends and I fear she will become suicidal when she realizes what she has done to her family and freinds.

For the last 11/2 my boyfriend of 4 years has been seeing a psychiatrist for depression. His current drug is Pristiq - he is definitly not the person I knew. He doesn't converse he just seems void not of emotion but of himself (is that makes sense). I relate it to the Prestiq I hope he takes my advice and changes his meds because I don't know this person.

And yes, they all could have been caused by the Pristiq, they can occur with virtually any medication that acts on brain chemicals.

That is why they carry black box warnings about the possibility that they may cause suicidal thoughts in some people that take them. This is the most concerning issue, since it's so highly dangerous.

But these medications can cause the opposite of their desired effect in virtually every capacity. So, some people may get depressed, some may get emotional, some may get anxious, some may behave erratic and etc.

The major problem, in my opinion, is that doctors are not as well educated about the possible issues as pharmacists, medical scientists and other pharmacology experts.

Thus, a doctor may not actually know that the medication could be causing such problems.

I certainly hope everything turned out well for everyone involved.

However, the best advice I can give to anyone else reading this post in the future…

You know yourself and your loved ones better than any doctor ever could and you are the best advocate for yourself and them.

If you know that someone isn't acting right and they are taking a new medication, then don't let anyone brush you off and convince you that the medication isn't the problem.

Do your research and insist that you be listened to.

I'm experiencing the exact same side effects ! I've been on pristiq for 3 weeks . I'm Contantly worried about what ppl are thinking habing terrible anxiety and having major difficulty holding conversations. I've had thoughts of sucisidE every night for the past week ,which has never happend until now. Long story short screw pristiq it's the worst experience I've had wit a medication . I'm going cold turkey and throwing the pills away, u shud probably do the same
