Antibiotic For Bronchitis Not Penicillin

I have copd and have developed bronchitis over the last week or so. I am allergic to penicillin. My doctor believes the bronchitis is bacterial and has prescribed a medication that the prescription insert says "May cause serious lung problems. Tell your doctor if you develop a cough, shortness of breath, or chest pain" all of which I have with copd and bronchitis. He also prescribed 5 days of prednisone and a pro air inhaler. What would be the best antibiotic given this information. (The medication is sulfameth/trimethoprim 800160mg TB.)

There are risks associated with all medications and that warning is usually included with most antibiotics, due to the possibility of hypersensitivity reactions, thus, I really don't know what I could suggest that might be safer for you.

Did you speak to your doctor about your concerns? They should be able to help you discover which one would be safest for you.

The FDA lists the typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
